Many of our students in special education use technology like text-to-speech to help them access grade-level assignments, tests, and other classroom materials. Text-to-speech allows the words on their screen to be read aloud to them, which can make a huge difference for students who struggle with reading. Because of your generosity, students can now use this technology with discreet earbuds instead of the bulky headphones that often made them feel different or singled out.\r\n\r\nThe most exceiting thing for our students is that the earbuds look like something their peers would actually use. For middle schoolers, that matters! We have students who were hesitant to use their text-to-speech accommodation because they did not want to put on a large pair of headphones in front of their classmates. Now, those same students can put in their earbuds, listen to the material, and get to work without feeling like everyone is looking at them. It has been especially rewarding to see students who previously avoided using this support become more comfortable using it independently.\r\n\r\nYour donation has given our students more than just a new piece of technology. It has helped remove some of the stigma they may feel around using accommodations and given them greater confidence to use the tools that help them learn. Instead of having to choose between fitting in and getting the support they need, they can focus on learning and being successful.
