These activities aided different lessons and allowed the students to fully comprehend and build on their phonological skills.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to see the dotted washable markers that we used during our stem and read-aloud project for The Hungry Caterpillar. Using coffee filters and markers, the students were able to make colorful butterflies and learned about mixing colors to make new colors and even tie-dye. The colorful element of the project would not have been possible without these markers.\r\n\r\nThe mini alphabet and animal stamper were a total game-changer. Students who were struggling to write their names and recognize letters improved rapidly with the help of the stamp. First, students collected the letters in their names, stamped them in the correct order, then copied the spelling. All the students loved doing this activity in the creative writing center.\r\n\r\nDuring rainy days, the school smart sidewalk chalk tub was a lifesaver. Students were able to use the chalk to play hopscotch and to illustrate their imaginations on the floor. The chalk was not only fun and easy to use but also easy to clean up.\r\n\r\nFor the skill of phonological awareness, students are still learning the sounds of the letters using picture cards. I also have many ELL students (English language learners) and they use picture cards to help blend sounds. I use a mix of cards during whole group and small group lessons as some are still working on their vocabulary and some need more one-on-one help and these cards are a great asset.\r\n\r\nI have included some pictures from the lessons and activities mentioned above. Thank you for all your interest and support towards helping my students become successful lifelong learners. The impact of your contributions transcends beyond just the achievements of each lesson and helps solidify and strengthen the foundational literacy building blocks.","fullyFundedDate":1710040185823,"projectUrl":"project/phonological-awareness/8230186/","projectTitle":"Phonological Awareness","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kassam","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5849411"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_130467","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":52,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":66.0,"schoolId":130467,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Martinez Early Learning Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Martinez Early Learning Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/alief-independent-school-district/martinez-early-learning-center/130467"}
