From the time the boxes were brought in to the classroom they have shared their excitement and joy. Students even work harder to complete assignments so they can have a few minutes to read in our new books. \r\n I have worked so hard on fostering a love of independent reading and having these books on different levels and topics really ensures students are given the best chance to have that. Without your generous support, I would not have been able to create a library that I have for my students. I appreciate you so much. As each new class saw got to play them, they were so shocked and happy! The new drums are big enough that several kids can \"gather\" and play the beat and rhythm patterns. Spontaneously and cooperatively taking turns drumming took our entire music class the day they arrived. We tried them with many songs, and I let the kids lead the way with exploration and fun! The drums are also big enough that the vibrations can be felt in their bodies and in the floor, much to their delight. The beautiful tones have brought so much happiness to our music.\r\n One special moment I wanted to share, was when the new drums made their debut in our 5th grade music concert, \"Heroes.\" Our school is named for Martin Luther King, Jr., and as part of many songs and speaking parts that evening we highlighted the children's personal heroes. The fifth graders used the drums to keep the beat for a chant in Dr. King's honor, who is our school's personal hero. It was just awesome! \r\n Thank you for the supporting the gift of music in each child's life at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary. We love our new drums, and on behalf of our over 500 students, thank you!","fullyFundedDate":1727462886184,"projectUrl":"project/weve-got-the-beat/8574830/","projectTitle":"We've Got the Beat!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Goolsby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp315650_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693277900250","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/315650"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41828","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":498,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":30,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":51.8,"schoolId":41828,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Martin L King Junior Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Martin L King Junior Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/widefield-school-district/martin-l-king-junior-elementary-school/41828"}
