They enjoy coming to the carpet and reading with their plush buddy. They also enjoy reading with a reading buddy next to them. They can not wait to come to school and devour a new book that is available for them.\r\n\r\nI love reading aloud to my students on the carpet, we work on listening skills and comprehension questions. The students learn about the story setting, who are the characters and how the characters feel in the story. We learn to name the problem and resolution.The students are noticing how the character changes througout the story. They realize the character can behave differently at the beginning of the story and they can change at the end.\r\n\r\nThe students are delighted to have new books in our library. It shows the students different emotions as we read Little SPOT books because it helps students how to show and regulate their emotions in a positve manner. Thanks to your support, my students were able to dive into an exciting, hands-on engineering challenge using the laundry baskets and materials you funded. These supplies became our \"storm drains,\" and the \"lost items\" students worked to retrieve, giving them a realistic and safe way to design and test their own problem-solving tools.\r\n\r\nThis project encouraged teamwork, persistence, and innovation as students brainstormed ideas, built prototypes, and refined their designs—just like real engineers. Along the way, they also learned about environmental science, including how stormwater systems work and why keeping them clean is essential to preventing pollution.\r\n\r\nIt was inspiring to see how deeply students connected with this challenge. Many who often struggle during traditional lessons became completely absorbed in the activity. Even before the project was formally introduced, students were already sharing ideas, collaborating, and celebrating their early attempts. Once we began, the excitement in the room was contagious as they tested their designs and discovered the value of perseverance and creative thinking.\r\n\r\nOne moment stood out in particular: a student created such a unique and effective tool that, like a wave, others began adapting her idea. She was so proud, and her classmates were genuinely grateful. It was a beautiful example of confidence, leadership, and community growing right in front of us. They left class that day with a new positive memory, and many joyful \"I love STEM!\" comments danced through the air.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made this meaningful learning experience possible. Because of you, my students were able to connect science, engineering, and environmental awareness in a hands-on, memorable way, building not only STEM skills but also confidence and curiosity. I look forward to conducting this lesson for many years to come, with new classes each trimester.\r\n\r\nNext up in our unit, students will use Sphero and Little Bits to create machines that can move through and lift trash from sand as they explore solutions to keeping our beaches clean. When I opened the boxes and shared with them what was inside they were ecstatic. One of the first items we at the beginning of the year, was the play dough. At the beginning the students were exploring with the playdough in order to work on their fine motor skills. Gradually, the play dough stampers along with the clay and dough designer kit were introduced. Now we were making letters and shapes while at the same time strengthening our fine motor skills.\r\n\r\nWhen the Primary Journals were introduced the students loved them! Here they had the opportunity to become illustrators and use crayons to color and decorate their pictures. As the year progressed, we were able to start using letters to tell about our pictures and they become writers. We use the journals on a daily basis and we are now using words and sentences to write/tell our stories.\r\n\r\nWe have made different projects throughout the year using our cardstock and our arts and crafts. Our favorite had to be the Mohter's Day Project. The students became artists and decorated their flower pots with peel stick jewelry, shimmer shapes and acrylic gem stones. We also made a flower bouquet that had a writing and and art component that needed cardstock and crayons. Students wrote messages and decorated their flowers.
