They explored materials with curiosity and intention, learning how to use each item to its fullest potential. This type of active engagement not only kept students excited and motivated, but also supported the development of essential problem-solving and critical thinking skills.\r\nStudents were especially enthusiastic about using brand new tools, such as safety scissors. For many, this was their first opportunity to practice proper scissor use in a structured setting. Through guided support, they learned how to hold and control the scissors safely and effectively. This experience played an important role in strengthening their gross motor skills, as well as improving their hand-eye coordination. As they cut different materials, students demonstrated increasing confidence and independence, taking pride in their ability to complete tasks on their own.\r\nIn addition to developing motor skills, students were introduced to foundational measurement concepts. Using measuring spoons and cups, they began learning how to accurately measure and compare different amounts of materials. This hands-on practice helped them understand the importance of precision and following directions, while also building early math skills. Students were encouraged to explore what happens when measurements change, sparking curiosity and discussion about quantities, size, and balance.\r\nThe combination of tool use and measurement created a rich, interactive learning environment where students could experiment, make mistakes, and try again. They were not only following instructions, but also thinking critically about their actions and outcomes. This type of experiential learning allowed students to make connections between what they were doing and what they were learning, reinforcing key concepts in a memorable way.\r\nOverall, these activities provided students with valuable opportunities to build confidence, develop fine and gross motor skills, and strengthen their understanding of basic math and science concepts. With access to new tools and materials, and with your continued support, students were able to take ownership of their learning and fully immerse themselves in the experience. Their excitement and engagement were evident throughout, demonstrating just how impactful hands-on, exploratory learning can be in the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1754679909158,"projectUrl":"project/creating-young-stem-learners/9541888/","projectTitle":"Creating Young STEM Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jaime","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10067683"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23270","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":600,"numTeachers":59,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"10.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.6,"schoolId":23270,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mamaroneck Avenue Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mamaroneck Avenue Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/mamaroneck-union-free-school-district/mamaroneck-avenue-elementary-school/23270"}
