Since our class is not able to use the main playground due to safety concerns, the trampoline, swing, turf, and blackout tent have truly become our playground. We use the trampoline and swing chair throughout the day for sensory breaks and movement time. My students take turns jumping on the trampoline to get their \"wiggles out,\" and the swing has become a favorite spot for calming down when big feelings show up. The turf area gives us a soft, safe place to sit together for songs, stories, and small group activities.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching a student who usually avoids group play eagerly wait in line for a turn on the swing. When it was finally his turn, he smiled, relaxed his body, and then joined his peers on the turf for our circle time—something he often struggled with before. The blackout tent has also become a powerful tool for regulation. When a child feels overwhelmed, they can choose to sit in the tent with a book or a soft toy, and within a few minutes they're usually ready to rejoin the group. These resources help my students feel safe in their bodies so they can be more present for learning.\r\n\r\nNext, we are working on building more structured activities around these materials, such as turn-taking games on the trampoline, movement and counting activities on the turf, and calm-down routines that teach students how to recognize when they need a break and choose a strategy that works for them. Your support has not only given my students access to sensory tools they love, but it has also allowed us to create a more inclusive, responsive learning environment where every child can participate and thrive. Thank you for believing in my students and helping make our classroom a place of joy, safety, and growth.","fullyFundedDate":1756983347872,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-supports/9440415/","projectTitle":"Sensory Supports","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10067644_orig.jpg?crop=463,463,x198,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751309495462","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10067644"},{"teacherId":10067644,"projectId":9440604,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing class snacks for our students. Your generosity has turned snack time into a calm, happy, and predictable part of our day. Many of our scholars come to school with big feelings and busy bodies, and having consistent, healthy snacks helps them stay regulated and ready to learn. We use snack time as more than just a meal,it's a chance to practice communication, turn-taking, social skills, and independence. For example, students work on requesting what they'd like (\"more\" or pointing to a preferred snack), sharing with peers, and cleaning up after themselves.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the snack choices, their faces lit up with excitement. Some of our kiddos who are usually hesitant to try new things were more willing to taste a new snack when they saw their friends enjoying it too. We've already had sweet moments of students spontaneously saying \"thank you\" or signing \"more\" because they genuinely enjoyed what they were eating.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these snacks will continue to support our lessons on routines, self-help skills, and building community at the table. We are working on helping our students use words or visuals to express when they are hungry, make choices, and show kindness by waiting patiently and sharing space with others. Your support may seem simple,a snack, but in our classroom, it is a powerful tool for learning, connection, and comfort. The chewies have been especially helpful during transitions, students now have a safe, positive way to release energy and settle back into learning.\r\nThese items are quickly becoming part of our daily routines. The stuffed animals now live in our cozy corner, giving comfort and reassurance whenever a child needs a quiet break. The weighted vest helps students feel secure during group lessons, and the chewies have turned stressful moments into calmer, more manageable ones.\r\nWith your generosity, my students feel cared for and supported, not just by me, but by someone who believes in them beyond our classroom walls.
