Sideways Arithmetic from Wayside School opened their eyes to problem solving with the addition of fun and excitement as they learned to draw conclusions and find solutions. The Number Devil showed students new and strange ways to talk about and relate to numbers. It really sparked students' curiosity for more math! Hidden Figures provided the perfect link between 6th grade math and science standards, as we learned how math played an essential role in the space race. It also inspired students to rise above their personal circumstances and reach for the stars. \r\n\r\nThese books helped to reach many different types of students. It helped struggling students take an interest in what they were learning and brought excitement and intrigue to math topics.
