Black Light Annotations\" project. This project positively impacted 137 middle school students in my ELA classroom. With the resources provided and the success of this project, I will repeat this activity in the future.\r\n\r\nFor the glow light activity, I covered my windows so my room was pitch black. Then, I set up the black lights around the perimeter of my classroom, which not only illuminated the reading passages for that day, but also the reference posters around my room. I also blew up neon balloons to reflect the black lights even more. While I encouraged my students to wear neon, I did not give them a preview of the project itself. As they entered the room, they were all so excited and immediately interested in our task. They wanted to know right away what we were doing for class! \r\n\r\nThat day, we practiced highlighting and annotating textual evidence to support a theme in a fictional text. Students worked in small groups to identify textual evidence that showed how the author developed and revealed the story's theme. Students focused on text details about character development, setting, and conflict. This activity was an extension of the previous mini-lessons we completed about selecting textual evidence with intentionality. \r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue using the skill of selecting relevant and strong text evidence as they read nonfiction texts, as well as a fictional novel we will read at the end of the school year as part of a STEM unit. Thank you again for your donations that made this project possible. With these resources, you helped me build foundational ELA skills and knowledge for my students that they will use throughout the whole school year.","fullyFundedDate":1745075483735,"projectUrl":"project/glow-party-black-light-annotations/9260586/","projectTitle":"Glow Party!
