The additional shelving has also helped us organize our materials so students can access the tools they need in a more structured and predictable environment.\r\n\r\nThese resources support students with a variety of sensory, motor, and self-regulation needs. For example, a student who arrives feeling overwhelmed can use the beanbag chair and a calming strategy to help their body settle before returning to a learning activity. Another student who needs movement and deep-pressure input can participate in safe, structured activities on the crash mat to help improve body awareness and regulation. The bench and organized shelving also support independence by creating predictable routines for transitioning into and out of our sessions. These seemingly simple materials help students feel comfortable, build confidence, and develop strategies that support their participation throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using this space for occupational therapy sessions, mindfulness and movement activities, and opportunities to practice self-regulation and social participation. The colorful marker choices beyond the standard package of markers have been a hit. They also love the various shape punchers to enhance their art projects. They get so excited when they get to use them. The hot glue gun has allowed them to create things such as cardboard structures that ordinary glue won't hold. So many fun ways to utilize the items that I received from your donations! Biodegradable pots and vermiculite simplified the seed-starting process, and proper-fitting gloves, kid-friendly shovels and other materials kept students protected, engaged, and actively involved in learning.\r\n\r\nWe used Daniel's Plants Naked Pots to start 100s(!!) of seedlings for our food-focused gardens and annual plant sale. These peat-free spruce fiber pots help students' seedlings thrive by eliminating transplant shock when the entire cup was planted into the raised bed gardens. These pots safely decompose into the soil - a great lesson in sustainability - teaching students about Zero-Waste practices and involving them directly in the process. The wool roving, plain cotton squares, little see-through bags, safe stainless steel bowls, clear plastic sheets, and special printing papers made magic happen. With these things, students created projects that helped them reach learning goals.\r\n\r\nStudents were color scientists! They watched as we mixed and heated natural things (like acorns and avocado pits) to make beautiful colors. Students learned that the wool roving (the fluffy stuff) and the cotton squares (the smooth cloth) soak up the color differently, making them different shades! They learned that different materials act differently with water and plant pigments. \r\n\r\nBy making sun prints students learned how sunlight can make a permanent picture. The acrylic sheets were perfect for pressing flowers and leaves flat onto the printing papers. When left in the sun, the light made beautiful pictures!\r\n\r\nIt was such an engaging project that mixed art, science, and nature into fun activities the students could actually see, feel, and do.
