I saw my students grow in summarizing, making inferences, identifying character changes, exploring plot elements and more. We had such great conversations in class and I saw 100% participation. \r\n\r\nThanks to your help, we were able to make this reading unit such a great success. Furthermore, students were able to empathize with a character different from themselves. My students are at an age that reading literature about these concepts helps them to develop a better understanding of these concepts, supports their learning, and allows me to facilitate conversations about social-emotional learning in a way that is accessible to my students' understanding. \r\n\r\nMy district has provided me with curriculum in grades TK-5 that defines social-emotional learning. Students are beginning to develop an understanding of what perseverance, gratitude, empathy, respect, and responsibility. They are beginning to learn how these concepts help them to develop a sense of self and identity. The books that your donation has provided to my teaching has also helped students to form their sense of self and identity. Many of my students have read the books and have made connections to what I am teaching them about social-emotional learning. As an educator, seeing students form connections between what they are learning to books they are reading is very exciting.
