Having brand-new copies that aren't falling apart has made such a difference students are proud to open them, and it has sparked a new level of excitement for reading in our classroom. Many of them had only heard about Harry Potter before, but now they are experiencing the story firsthand, together, in a way that feels special.\r\n\r\nThrough these texts, we are practicing important skills like inferencing, identifying themes, and analyzing character traits. The magical world of Harry Potter is such a perfect fit because it naturally draws students in while also providing rich opportunities for meaningful discussion and comprehension practice. Already, I've noticed students who were reluctant readers raising their hands to share predictions, make connections, and even ask if they can keep reading after class.\r\n\r\n\r\nOne of the greatest joys has been watching students who usually struggle with focus stay completely engaged during our read-alouds. For example, one student who typically finds reading difficult has been eager to explain how Harry feels when he's mistreated by the Dursleys showing both comprehension and empathy. These books are not only helping us meet academic goals but are also giving my students a sense of community, excitement, and confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your generosity is helping my students experience the joy of reading in a way that will stick with them long after this project is over.","fullyFundedDate":1754784933952,"projectUrl":"project/wands-words-and-wonder-building-reade/9555651/","projectTitle":"Wands, Words, and Wonder: Building Readers With Harry Potter","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Henry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10100105_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763236206095","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10100105"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15816","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":509,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"15.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":54.4,"schoolId":15816,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lyman Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lyman Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/harrison-county-school-district/lyman-elementary-school/15816"}
