Imagine you are trying to sound out a very difficult word and all of a sudden you hear a chair from another center getting moved. You have to turn around and see what is happening. You've lost your train of thought and have to start over reading that whole sentence. The classroom can be a noisy learning environment, with paired reading, guided reading, and small groups, but with the chair socks it can be a little less noisy. The chair socks will the chairs from squeaking when students move in and out of the tables. There is nothing more distracting than someone getting up to grab a tissue or a pencil.
