They have gained such a sense of accomplishment and independence by making and selling the treats using the items that were purchased through this project. They have all learned proper food handling practices, how to make the items we have cooked and been able to practice working with money when we sell them. They do not even realize they are working on their fine motor skills and all the things listed above because they are having so much fun. \r\n\r\nThis is my first year at this school and teaching these wonderful kids. Before me they mostly stayed secluded from the rest of the school. Through your generous donations it has given my students the opportunity to interact with their peers and some awesome friendships have formed from these interactions. Now when we are going to lunch and other places around school the other students speak to my kids and give them high fives and such. To see the smiles on their faces knowing they are accepted and loved by the other students is an amazing thing to see. \r\n\r\nWe have been able to sell the treats that we make at break, everything is priced at $1 so it is easier for my students to take the money, and we work on giving change back when needed. Everyone loves our treats at school, and we always sell out. We have been able to use the money earned to go on field trips and we have a couple more planned in the future. One field trip we went on was Trick or Treating at a few local nursing homes and then to lunch. The residents at the nursing homes loved us visiting and everyone had a blast. Our next trip is going to be to a local grocery store to shop for items and then pay for them and all of this will be paid for with the money they have earned because of your generosity. \r\n\r\nThank you so very much for helping me make all this possible for this excellent group of students that I have the privilege of teaching!","fullyFundedDate":1729657853749,"projectUrl":"project/sweet-inclusion-handmade-treats/8827556/","projectTitle":"Sweet Inclusion Handmade Treats","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sarah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9779674_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727319615273","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sarahnewman"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12791","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":740,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":82.4,"schoolId":12791,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Loyd Star School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Loyd Star School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/lincoln-county-school-district/loyd-star-school/12791"}
