The Creepy books were probably the biggest hit. I read Creepy Carrots!, Creepy Pair of Underwear!, and Creepy Crayon! with kindergarten through fifth grade, and every group was into them. The kids were laughing, making predictions, noticing little details in the pictures, and wanting to talk about what they thought was going to happen next. Those are the kinds of read-alouds I love because the students are really involved instead of just sitting and listening.\r\n\r\nI also used The Most Magnificent Thing and Iggy Peck, Architect with first grade, which worked really well for talking about creativity, problem-solving, and not giving up when something is hard. I used Malala's Magic Pencil with second through fifth grade, and that gave us a chance to talk about education, standing up for what you believe in, and how one person can make a difference. I'm also planning to do book talks with The Spiderwick Chronicles because I want to get more students interested in the series and hopefully increase circulation.\r\n\r\nSince we do not have a library budget this year, getting new books like these really does mean a lot. I try to choose books that I know I can actually use with students and that they will be excited to check out afterward.
