The xylophone is particularly popular and helps calm the students done and refocus them.\r\nWe have used the tambourine for back ground effects and also to make tableau (frozen image) changes on stage!\r\nI really am so grateful for these gifts to our classroom they have been game changing!!!","fullyFundedDate":1735331102186,"projectUrl":"project/musical-instruments-for-the-performing-a/9018364/","projectTitle":"Musical Instruments for the Performing Arts Theatre Program","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Steele","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9627779_orig.jpg?crop=1573,1573,x853,y293&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735065168440","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9627779"},{"teacherId":9848351,"projectId":8968585,"letterContent":"Introducing Solito to my ELD classroom had a powerful impact. Many of my students saw their own experiences reflected in Javier Zamora's journey, which created a strong emotional connection to the text. It opened the door for meaningful discussions about identity, migration, and resilience. The book not only supported language development through rich vocabulary and storytelling structures, but also empowered students to share their voices. I noticed an increase in engagement, confidence, and a sense of belonging in the classroom. Solito helped transform our space into a community of readers and storytellers.","fullyFundedDate":1736986904535,"projectUrl":"project/amplifying-voices-culturally-relevant-t/8968585/","projectTitle":"Amplifying Voices: Culturally Relevant Texts to Inspire Advanced ELD Readers.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Espinoza-Romero","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9848351_orig.jpg?crop=1156,1156,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752173960290","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9848351"},{"teacherId":9627779,"projectId":8556849,"letterContent":"Many of my beginning theatre students had not even heard of William Shakespeare! We were able to delve into the life and times of the famous playwright and the students enjoyed researching and sharing their findings with each other using a slide show or a poster to present their research projects. \r\nThey began by learning about Elizabethan England, Renaissance theatre and the Bard himself. They discovered the hierarchical systems which were in place in Britain and Europe in the 16th and 17th Centuries including the Royal family, Nobility, Aristocracy, Plebians, Wars, Crime and punishment, along with the diseases and financial troubles the peoples were contending with. \r\nWith the above context my Theatre students were able to understand the subject and content of the play Twelfth Night. Although the play was written in 1601 it reveals to the students that much of its content is still relevant today!! \r\nThe book \"no fear\" Shakespeare allowed my students to choose to read Shakespeares' version along with the adjacent pages interpretation. As this was the first time that a lot of them had seen and heard the unfamiliar language of Shakespeare many of them chose to perform their rehearsal using the interpretive side. \r\nWe spent much of our last unit (3) studying and watching Twelfth night. The students analyzed the main characters and created their own scripts, using Shakespeares' insults. They drew pictures of the story and created character graphs. When studying the script my students were able to see the presentation of the characters, setting and stage directions and this allowed them to create their own 1 page scripts following this formula.\r\nThe students enjoyed reading out loud the characters in the script and also performing mini performances of Act 1 and Act 2 on stage or in the classroom in front of the class.\r\nWe will be using these books every year, as an easy and enjoyable way to introduce my students to William Shakespeare one of the greatest playwrights that has ever existed! \r\nOnce the students go to high school they will be expected to develop an understanding for Shakespeare and will probably be studying Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth. This introduction will give them a head start! \r\nThank you so much, these books are gorgeous and have a really good introductory 4 chapters before the play begins.","fullyFundedDate":1726261347429,"projectUrl":"project/scripts-to-inspire-create-and-imagine-f/8556849/","projectTitle":"Scripts to Inspire, Create and Imagine for New Theatre Program!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Steele","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9627779_orig.jpg?crop=1573,1573,x853,y293&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735065168440","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9627779"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39981","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":769,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":82,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":63.0,"schoolId":39981,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lompoc Valley Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lompoc Valley Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/lompoc-unified-school-district/lompoc-valley-middle-school/39981"}
