All of the fourth graders had their noses in books and you could see the wheels turning!\r\n\r\nBecause of your donations students will have new books to take home and read with their families over their Fall Break. During our book giveaway each class in the school had the opportunity to select a book of interest to them. This is important because most of their school day is spent reading texts that the teacher or district has chosen. In order to motivate students to be life long readers and learners it is important that they have choice in what they want to explore through books.\r\n\r\nDuring the book giveaway students listened to a peer guest reader who shared an excerpt from the book that had chosen from the giveaway. Next, students browsed the books and made a selection of a \"good fit book\" for themselves. After that, they visited a photo booth where they got their picture taken with their books and Thanksgiving themed props. Finally, they were given a bookmark to take home to be signed if they shared their new book with family members they saw during the break. After returning to school they turned in their signed bookmarks for a small prize in appreciation of their efforts.\r\n\r\nOverall, the first giveaway was a huge success.
