Every year I love to bring something new to our field day and this year it was the Ostrich eggs, inflatable soccer darts and the gaga ball pit. We had to introduce the game of gaga ball first in the few weeks leading up to PE and the students at Linwood loved it. The fun thing about the gaga ball pit is that the game can be adapted for the kindergartners using modified rules. This meant that the whole school got to learn the game of gaga ball and thoroughly enjoyed it. The game brings not just physical benefits to the students but also social benefits as they learn all about good sportsmanship and learn that sometimes it is ok to be out of a game. We also talked a lot to them about the meaning of winning without boasting about it. \r\nThe soccer darts were a hit at our field day. For the younger groups we realized that it was best to throw at the targets rather than kick at the targets and they had so much fun trying to get a bullseye and this was great for their hand eye coordination. The older students were able to kick it, and this worked on their sense of achievement as well as their foot skills.\r\nAll of the students loved the larger ostrich eggs. We were able to use them on our field day alongside sacs I purchased for a sac race so they would try to take the egg and spoon down the course followed by the jumping inside the sac. This brought a ton of smiles and laughter. Once again thank you all for your kind donation. It for sure brought a lot of happy faces on field day","fullyFundedDate":1743785911433,"projectUrl":"project/inflatable-soccer-darts-ostrich-eggs-an/9083930/","projectTitle":"Inflatable Soccer Darts, Ostrich Eggs and Ga-Ga Ball Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Zwiesler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3179197_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1545426854152","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3179197"},{"teacherId":9832185,"projectId":8934382,"letterContent":"The soccer clinic was an absolute hit! Thank you for your donations to make this come together. 68 kids had the delight of having a soccer ball at their feet, thanks to your donation. When I brought out three big bags filled with soccer balls, they could not believe that these were for them. They screamed and cheered with excitement! \r\nAll the students that participated made improvements in there soccer fundamentals. We were able to limit waiting in lines because every kid had a ball. \r\nI have already scheduled the soccer clinic for next year. My students were so excited when our new toys arrived. The new colored poly spots have been great for our fitness color work out. I tell the students to move around the gym e.g. galloping around the spots, when the music stops the students have to find a spot and the TV screen tells them what to do e.g. if you are on the red spot do jumping jacks. I have also used them as parking spots in my nutrition games e.g. students had to ride to all the food in the middle of the gym on a scooter. I pretended that the food was inside Fred Meyer but before they went inside, they had to park their sooter on a poly spot. They loved this.\r\nThe Step N Stilts have been so fun for the students to use as part of their obstacle course work along with all the other balance activities. They have been so good at helping the students balance and they have also helped with coordination. I plan to also use them to walk around sight words where they can spell the words out. Part of the Lit fit stations for kindergartners had been having them do something while saying the sound of the letter or spelling out a sight word. The duck walker balance boards have been so fun for this. The students have been able to balance on them, at the same time repeating their sight words. One student even said, 'These are so much fun' Finally, we have loved the fit spots. I have the students jog on our track on outside of the gym and when the music stops, they have to find a fit spot and do that exercise until the music starts playing again. They love this and the colorful and bright fit spots makes exercising so fun for them. Once again thanks for all our fun and new equipment.","fullyFundedDate":1736987403534,"projectUrl":"project/number-and-letter-superheroes-through-ex/8884255/","projectTitle":"Number and Letter Superheroes Through Exercise and Balance Activities","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Zwiesler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3179197_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1545426854152","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3179197"},{"teacherId":4101037,"projectId":8298168,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support and help in getting this opportunity funded and ready for students. This fall all robotics were used in an afterschool coding club. There were 40+ girls who showed up excited and ready to learn about coding. It was amazing to see them excel and overcome challenges, then put their knowledge into use developing a challenge. They were able to problem solve and support each other- gaining the social skills that their classroom teachers haven't been able to see during the school day. We celebrated our learning with a coding celebration at the end of December to show off their new skills to their families. Both families and girls were loving the chance to express their excitement around STEM. I've also found smaller challenges to try in the classroom such as a ballon parade to honor the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade after learning about the history before fall break. Im excited to share the solar system lessons in the coming weeks as we start our next unit of learning. Thank you for your generosity and support for students to explore STEM without limits in our classrooms of today.","fullyFundedDate":1715483623948,"projectUrl":"project/stem-for-students/8298168/","projectTitle":"STEM for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shatto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4101037_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1480283514303","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kelsys"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_36619","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":505,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":36619,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Linwood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Linwood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/spokane-public-schools/linwood-elementary-school/36619"}
