We are constantly working on something that requires building or painting, and very often both building and painting! I believe that incorporating some type of art into anything we do makes the activity more engaging and helps facilitate memory. But art supplies are expensive, and so often we don't have what we need. Thank you isn't enough to express how excited we are to have BIG containers of primary colors that can be morphed into any shade that my students need or want. Each ofrenda included all of the traditional elements, with students thoughtfully selecting items based on their research and the cultural significance behind them.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donations, students had access to materials that brought their work to life. The clay allowed them to craft foods, drinks, and cherished objects that reflected the lives of those they were honoring. The tea candles and artificial cempasúchils added essential symbolism and atmosphere, representing light and scent that guide the spirits of loved ones back home.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the classroom was palpable—not only during the research and creation phase, but also when students shared their projects with others. We invited other classrooms to visit and vote on their favorite ofrenda. As visitors passed by, my students proudly explained the significance of the items they had chosen and the meaning behind the celebration. They truly became experts in this beautiful tradition.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping to create such an enriching, hands-on experience for my Spanish students. Your support made a lasting impact on their learning and appreciation for cultural traditions.","fullyFundedDate":1737221241605,"projectUrl":"project/the-after-party-el-da-de-los-muertos/8863445/","projectTitle":"The After Party, El Día De Los Muertos","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Salinas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8002005_orig.jpg?crop=1526,1526,x180,y1497&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724765963179","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8002005"},{"teacherId":191546,"projectId":8977936,"letterContent":"This has been such a fantastic experience for my students. Because I have a Spanish I class we haven't used books in this class until this one, so I really didn't know how they would react. The students sat in groups and read a few pages at a time, discussing their initial take on the story Don Quixote. They discussed connections to real life and literature as if they were in a book club. I was pleased to see students trying to read the Spanish translation and discussing the structure of the sentences as well as comparing the vocabulary used in both languages.\r\n\r\nThis was an exciting experience for all of my students even those that don't like to read.
