It has had a key impact on my students. My school has a \"Drop Everything and Read\" program where each student must read for 20 minutes in class. This brings a lot of new students to the library who say they don't like to read. Having new, relevant, and critically acclaimed graphic novel titles helps bridge this reluctant reader to enjoying reading. \r\n\r\nThe other segment of students who enjoy graphic novels are my English language learners as well as avid readers. Having visually rich text empowers students to help decode the text and comprehend the story as they learn how to read English. Graphic novels are also a lot of fun, and all of my avid readers enjoy having new graphic novels on hand to take home with them. \r\n\r\nMy students ask me all the time \"Miss do you have any new books?\" It was so nice to start the school year with a large collection for them to choose from. They get SO excited when new titles arrive. In addition to my reluctant readers I also have students who check out boks on a daily basis. This group of students especially love graphic novels and manga. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for bringing the love of reading to my reluctant and avid readers and my English language learners. Books help them process their world and escape for a little while from the stressfull lives they live at home, living in poverty. The titles in this group will help support our students in many ways.\r\n\r\n My book club has become interested in reading horror books. Natasha Preston is one of our top circulating horror authors. Having these new books by her will support both our book club and our avid horror readers.\r\n\r\nWe have a very large language learning and newcomer population. Having books about immigration, Spanish language titles and books about heroes who are of color will help support these students. We have a new refugee support community partner in our building, so they will be able to use these titles too, to help connect with newcomer students.\r\n\r\nThe graphic novels and manga titles are always in huge demand. Some even have waiting lists! They are perfect for reluctant readers, those who enjoy pleasure reading and those who are still developing their language skills. \r\n\r\nTogether these titles will help my building grow life long readers. It may seem like a simple item, but it has made a huge difference in our Computer Science learning environment. Before, students were constantly worrying about their devices running out of battery during coding sessions or while working on their projects. Now, with a reliable and organized charging station, they can focus fully on their work without interruption.\r\n\r\nThe charging station has become a hub of activity in the classroom. Students quickly took ownership of it, creating a fair system to rotate usage and ensure everyone's devices stay powered. One student who's working on a personal app development project said, \"This helps me keep going—I don't have to stop just because my laptop is dying.\" For many of my students who don't have access to consistent tech resources at home, this has helped level the playing field and given them the confidence to dive deeper into their learning.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping us build a classroom where students feel empowered and supported. We are lucky to have a state contest that allows students to participate in the nomination and choosing the winner of titles. The Buckeye Children's and Teen Book Awards allows Ohio students to read literature critically and celebrate those authors who win. Students sometimes see award winners and wonder aloud why those titles won. This book award allows them to nominate their favorite and see if it wins. \r\n When I explained to our students that these titles were chosen by other high school students in Ohio and they chose the winner they were excited to read the titles. They also asked about the past winner so I displayed them along with this year's winners. \r\n The students are excited to nominate some of their favorites next year along with voting for the winners. The students at our school historically have not been strong readers and having a genre that excites them to read has been a game changer for us. Our overall circulation has increased and we are now the highest circulating high school library in the district. One of the ways we have been able to achieve this accomplishment is by having Manga titles that the students want to read. Unfortunately, our district is not able to give us a budget to purchase new books, so generosity from people like you is one way we are able to get the titles students want in their hands.\r\n We have a waiting list of students who want the new titles that we have gotten and they ask almost everyday when they will get here.
