With dreary winter weather and fears about ice activity in the neighborhood, it is vital to have an indoor s outlet for explosive energy. \r\n\r\nThis year feels very trying, for adults and students alike. Students love playing together and practicing important skills like patience, communication, and teamwork. The watercolor paper has also been put to good use as students explore their creativity during art time.\r\n\r\nOne of my students, who is especially interested in birds, has been so excited about the National Geographic science books. Moving beyond phonics, my students are now diving into meaningful stories that spark rich discussions and help them connect with each other and the bigger world around them.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom has become a shared experience through book clubs, where students practice critical thinking, empathy, and communication skills. I've seen many students, especially those who were reluctant readers, become excited about choosing books and sharing their ideas with peers.\r\n\r\nLeonard (My Life as a Cat) quickly became a favorite in our classroom. Students connected with Leonard's humorous and heartfelt perspective, which helped spark conversations about empathy and understanding different points of view. Several kids who usually shy away from reading were drawn to Leonard's story because it's both funny and relatable.
