As I said in my project, I love to read and I want to instill that love in my students. We were able to purchase over 20 bilingual board books for our classroom! They are colorful and durable for the littles. \r\n\r\nIn PreK we begin to introduce students to reading and how reading is not only reading the words, but has many other components. We start from very basic skills like how to hold the book correctly and how to turn pages. How we should care for our books. We also go over parts of a book; front and back cover, spine, and pages. The students also learn what the author and illustrator does, the difference between real and drawn pictures, and what the tile of a book is. \r\n\r\nEven though students rarely know how to read, we teach them how to study the pictures, or take a picture walk, to see what the book may be about. As our year goes by we also teach them what characters are, difference between fiction and non-fiction, and functions of print. \r\n\r\nReading in our classroom can take place pretty much anywhere. As we follow the best practices of The Children's Learning Institute, we have baskets at every center has books. The ABC center has books on letters. Math center has books on numbers, shapes, and colors. Science has books on animals, plants, etc. Construction center has books on buildings, vehicles, and cities. Pretend and Learn center has books on families, homes, etc. Of course our Library center has themed books I borrow from the school library, but additional books, to include our new My Bilingual Book of First Words that was bought with your donation. And finally our STEAM center now has books on Scientists, Technology, Engineering, and Math. \r\n\r\nI have particularly seen an interest in STEAM books. They are chosen often and have become a great resource in our STEAM center. \r\n\r\nI than you once again for your generous donation. The addition of these bilingual books in my classroom has helped to support our language learners. The books have helped our students begin to learn cognates and begin their journey in our dual language program.","fullyFundedDate":1769177339369,"projectUrl":"project/take-a-look-its-in-a-libro/10042963/","projectTitle":"Take a Look, It's in a Libro!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alvarado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9989985"},{"teacherId":9989985,"projectId":10020199,"letterContent":"My littles have been so happy and excited to use the new materials purchased with your generous donation. Students have been able to use the translucent letters for recognition/knowledge. Translucent chips used for counting on a \"caterpillar\" and to make patterns on a \"snake\" during our insect and reptile themes. Translucent bugs used for making patterns on \"grass\" during our insect theme. We have used the translucent shapes during our mammals with pattern block mats. \r\n\r\nOur materials have/will be used in other centers. The materials have also been used in the fine motor center with their hands and/or tweezer, tongs, and scoops. Materials will be continued to be used with our other themes and other centers. \r\n\r\nMy students and I greatly appreciate your donation.
