From the moment they saw the new materials, their excitement and curiosity were palpable. They immediately began observing local bird species around our campus, using binoculars and field guides to record sightings, identify behaviors, and connect what they saw to larger environmental concepts. One memorable moment was when a group of students used the binoculars for the first time — their joy and sense of discovery captured exactly what this project was meant to inspire.\r\n\r\nThe resources from this project played a key role in helping us earn the Green Flag Award, a national recognition of our school's deep commitment to sustainability. To achieve this honor, Lincoln Middle School's students and faculty completed a variety of environmental initiatives — including Indoor Gardening and Greenhouses, Building an Edible Garden, Creating a Rain Garden, and even publishing an Endangered Species Coloring Book. Our Bird-Friendly Schools initiative, supported by this project, was an essential piece of that success.\r\n\r\nThrough these experiences, our students learned to engage the local community, form an action team, develop and implement sustainability plans, and measure the impact of their efforts. Activities like Sit Spot and the Cool School Challenge gave students time to observe, reflect, and act — turning small moments of curiosity into meaningful environmental leadership.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our students aren't just learning about the environment — they're actively protecting it.","fullyFundedDate":1745334834330,"projectUrl":"project/birds-eye-view-inspiring-action-throug/9043390/","projectTitle":"Bird’s-Eye View: Inspiring Action Through Observation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cristalli","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9278553_orig.jpg?crop=1836,1836,x0,y306&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736779752372","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-cristalli"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_81350","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":722,"numTeachers":66,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":65,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.7,"schoolId":81350,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lincoln Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lincoln Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/kearny-school-district/lincoln-elementary-school/81350"}
