For many of my students, Spanish is the language they use at home with their families and is still their primary language. Seeing books in Spanish on our classroom shelves sends a powerful message that their language belongs here and is valued just as much as English. It also allows students to continue learning and growing in their native language while they are building their English skills.\r\n\r\nStudents were immediately excited to see books they could fully understand without needing to translate in their head. I have seen students light up when they recognize a title in Spanish or realize they can read a full chapter smoothly and confidently. Some students are choosing to check out Spanish books to share with family members at home, while others are using them to build confidence before trying the English version of the same story. Having Spanish books available has helped more students participate in reading time, feel successful as readers, and feel proud of being bilingual.","fullyFundedDate":1763639496784,"projectUrl":"project/libros-en-espaol-inspiring-bilingual-r/9853218/","projectTitle":"Libros en Español: Inspiring Bilingual Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mills","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6179689_orig.jpg?crop=1987,1988,x0,y185&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1642603952857","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6179689"},{"teacherId":6179689,"projectId":9802750,"letterContent":"This project has taken student excitement about reading to a new level because these are books students specifically asked for. These books have made reading feel like a privilege instead of an assignment, and that shift has been incredible to witness.\r\n\r\nNow, reading time is full of energy and choice. Students use these books for independent reading, dyad (partner) reading, and even at-home reading with their families. It's common to hear students talking about what they're reading, swapping books, and recommending series to their friends.
