My students are very energetic and have so much potential. They come from many different cultures and countries. Several students are refugees, and most of them speak English as a second language. Many of them live in shelters and come from single-parent families. Several of them have grown up in poverty and have not had many opportunities due to circumstances out of their control. Some of them feel like school is their only safe place. Despite these obstacles, my students are driven to improve their lives by being successful in school. They yearn for highly engaging learning activities in order to help them understand the world around them. They want to be better than the circumstances they are growing up in. My students are learning that the only way to improve their lives is through education.
