When the comfy floor cushions, lap desks, and cozy seating options were unboxed, the room filled with smiles and squeals of delight. One student exclaimed, \"This is the best seat ever!\" and a few others immediately claimed their favorite spots. The excitement was contagious, and I knew right away: these materials were going to change how my students engage with learning every day.\r\n\r\nWe've already put the new seating into regular use. During literacy, students grab a cushion or lap desk and settle into a more comfortable space to read, annotate, or write. In math, small groups gather on the carpet or around lap trays to work side-by-side, leaning in easily and collaborating more fluidly. I watched one student who often fidgets move to a floor cushion and suddenly stay focused for nearly double the usual time. Another student, who is more reserved, chose a cozy spot and confidently volunteered to share her thinking aloud with the class.\r\n\r\nWith flexible seating, my students move to spaces where they feel most creative and comfortable while working. I can already see how these choices will help them approach their work with more ownership and excitement. Because of your gift, our classroom has become a warmer, more student-centered space where every child can find comfort—and thrive in it.\r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in my students and our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1757946900013,"projectUrl":"project/getting-comfy-learning/9707271/","projectTitle":"Getting Comfy Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Desouky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2548439_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471921150938","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennifer-desouky"},{"teacherId":2548439,"projectId":9636190,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping bring full-color printing into our classroom! When the first color cartridges arrived, my students gathered around, eager and curious. \r\n\r\nWe've already begun integrating color printing into nearly every subject. In reading and writing groups, students love using color-coded graphic organizers and visual anchors that support vocabulary and grammar lessons. \r\n\r\nMoving forward, we'll use this resource to enhance our upcoming interdisciplinary scrapbook pages. Students make one to two different pages of their scrapbook each week with correlating photos to remember what they learn and do this year. This includes Latine Heritage Month, Lunch & Recess, and field trips. Their scrapbooks all will shine more dynamically thanks to the color printing. They'll be able to make choices about layout, color schemes, and imagery, and I know that when students have access to the tools to express themselves creatively, their pride in their work — and their learning — grows. Your gift has already begun to elevate both their confidence and their engagement. Thank you for investing in equity, beauty, and possibility in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1756049836926,"projectUrl":"project/equity-in-every-hue-color-printing-for/9636190/","projectTitle":"Equity in Every Hue: Color Printing for All","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Desouky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2548439_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471921150938","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennifer-desouky"},{"teacherId":2548439,"projectId":9603368,"letterContent":"I am filled with gratitude as I write to you — thanks to your support, my students' learning experiences have been enriched in ways I could only dream of before. When the flexible seating and educational games arrived, the classroom buzzed with excitement. As I opened the first box of floor seats and lap desks, a few students gasped and smiled and others immediately began choosing spots where they thought they'd learn best. Your gift let them take ownership of their learning space.\r\n\r\nWe've begun using the new materials across multiple subjects. During our bilingual literacy lessons (in both English and Spanish), small groups gather on the comfy floor seats to play games. In math, students rotate through hands‑on games like tri‑FACTa and magnetic manipulatives using stackable seats or lap desks. The flexible seating has helped restless learners channel energy productively, and I'm watching collaborative thinking increase as students lean in together around games at a table or on the floor.\r\n\r\nWith the flexible seating options, partners can spread out, choose where to work, and return to peak focus without being confined to rigid desks. I plan to rotate in Spanish language games and English language puzzles into the project center, so students can decide where and how to engage. Your gift is not just a one‑time contribution — it's the start of a new classroom culture, one where comfort, choice, and joyful learning go hand in hand.\r\n\r\nThank you for trusting and investing in my students. Due to your generosity, I have been able to have a \"whole class learning space\". In my school district, most 5th grade classrooms are not provided with a rug for students to sit on and learn in one space. The carpet circles have been wonderful to have students gathered together. They have also been useful for independent reading and work time where students have been able to go to their own space in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe art supplies have been a hit! We started the year using the Posca markers to make welcome signs to welcome in students and families at our entrances. The colored paper has been useful to send home newsletters and will be useful for students to use as they create posters and projects to demonstrate their learning. Seeing my students build and play together in the mornings is incredibly special. I'm grateful that they can ease into their school day with creativity in a low-stakes environment. I'm grateful that they have varied, colorful, interesting and open-ended toys. Every time the kids use these materials I see students collaborating, trying things out, making adjustments to their plans, trying again -- skills we want them all to hone as they figure out what it means to solve problems and put their ideas out into the world.\r\n\r\nI'm especially grateful that my students have access to these hands-on materials for open-ended play because we see the impact of people's overdependence on technology for entertainment and problem-solving -- a societal shift that affects children and, I would argue, harms them most of all. Opportunities to make and build with their own hands, and to test out hypotheses, feel rare, precious and important. Their morning \"tactile material\" time isn't just a lovely way to start our school day -- it forms an essential piece of our effort to give them a chance to disconnect from electronics and build with real materials.\r\n\r\nThank you for your kindness, for the trust you've placed in teachers, and for your faith in public schools. Many of them couldn't wait to dive into the colorful pages and captivating stories. The joy on their faces was priceless as they explored new worlds and connected with relatable characters. It has been inspiring to see how these graphic novels have sparked a newfound love for reading and storytelling.\r\n\r\nYour kindness and generosity have not only helped provide resources but also created meaningful moments and opportunities for growth.
