Your contribution has made a meaningful difference in our students' learning experiences and has enriched our curriculum in powerful ways.\r\n\r\nThe books I Have Lived a Thousand Years by Livia Bitton-Jackson, has had a particularly profound impact on our students. Through this memoir, students not only explored an important historical perspective of the Holocaust, but also developed critical reading and thinking skills.\r\n\r\nAs we read and discussed the text, students practiced analyzing character development, especially how the author's resilience and identity evolved through extreme adversity. They strengthened their ability to identify themes such as survival, hope, and the loss of innocence. The book also encouraged deeper comprehension skills, including making inferences, citing textual evidence, and understanding the author's purpose and perspective.\r\n\r\nIn addition, students engaged in meaningful discussions about empathy, ethics, and historical context. They learned to connect the events in the memoir to broader lessons about humanity, tolerance, and the importance of remembering history. Many students expressed that the story changed their perspective and helped them better appreciate both the struggles and strengths of others.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only supported literacy development but has also helped shape thoughtful, reflective, and informed young individuals. We are truly grateful for your support of education and for helping us bring such impactful literature into our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and commitment to our students' learning.","fullyFundedDate":1776448371503,"projectUrl":"project/the-past-that-teaches-the-future-rememb/10152451/","projectTitle":"The Past That Teaches The Future- Remembering the Holocaust","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Braun","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7715659_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1702666948808","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7715659"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_83196","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":331,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":38,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":83196,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/lima-city-school-district/lima-west-middle-school/83196"}
