I made a big deal of opening each box that was delivered to our classroom. The students were so excited to see what new math tools were inside. I chose manipulatives that we'll use at different times throughout the year, but we just had to open up all of the boxes and \"play\" with what's inside. Of course, all along, we're thinking and reasoning mathematically. :) The geoboards were a big hit and will mostly be used when we talk about Geometry this spring. The students were challenged to create closed shapes with a certain number of sides and/or angles. The cuisenaire rods were used to create shapes and \"measure\" their sides. We also compared lengths of different colored rods, which was a preview to ratios. The favorite (and most used) so far are the Classroom Playing Cards (like regular decks of cards except the face cards have been replaced with 11, 12, and 13. The aces are 1s). We use these to play games where the students review addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. These are used at least 3 times a week as we aim for fact fluency.\r\nIn short, thank you for creating excitement with math! Even students who struggle with math look forward to DOING math. Your donations (and YOU!) are much appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1726444934392,"projectUrl":"project/my-students-love-math/8786138/","projectTitle":"My Students Love Math!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thompson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9750807"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78426","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":351,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":62.3,"schoolId":78426,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lilian Peterson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lilian Peterson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/kalispell-public-school-district-5/lilian-peterson-elementary-school/78426"}
