Because of your thoughtful donations, my third-grade students now have a wonderful collection of books, journals, bookmarks, stickers, coloring activities, and art supplies that are helping us build a classroom community centered on empathy, compassion, and appreciation. Your kindness has provided my students with meaningful tools that are already making a lasting impact.\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were absolutely thrilled. Their eyes lit up as they explored the colorful books and inspiring activities. Many students immediately began reading the titles and sharing their excitement with one another. They were especially eager to look through the kindness stickers, gratitude journals, and affirmation coloring books. The excitement in the room was contagious, and the students knew right away that these materials were something very special.\r\nWe began by reading books such as Kindness Counts, Kindness Is My Superpower, Pete the Cat's Groovy Guide to Kindness, and A Little Spot of Empathy. These books opened the door to rich classroom discussions about understanding others, showing compassion, and recognizing the power of small acts of kindness. Students eagerly shared stories about times when someone had been kind to them and discussed ways they could brighten another person's day.\r\nThe gratitude journals have quickly become one of our favorite classroom activities. Several times each week, students write about things they are thankful for. Their responses range from family members and pets to friends, teachers, and even simple joys like sunshine and recess. This practice has encouraged students to focus on the positive aspects of their lives and has helped them develop a more optimistic mindset.\r\nThe inspirational bookmarks and kindness stickers have become treasured rewards and reminders. Students proudly use the bookmarks during independent reading, and they love earning stickers for demonstrating kindness, responsibility, and perseverance. These small incentives have had a big effect on student motivation and behavior.\r\nThe coloring books and paint pens have allowed students to express themselves creatively while reinforcing positive messages. One of our favorite activities was creating kindness rocks decorated with encouraging words and colorful designs. Students were excited to place these rocks around our school to surprise others and spread happiness.\r\nThe impact of your donation reaches far beyond academic learning. These materials are helping my students strengthen important social-emotional skills such as empathy, gratitude, self-confidence, and resilience. Students are becoming more thoughtful with their words, more supportive of one another, and more aware of the good things in their lives.\r\nAs we continue using these resources, we plan to expand our kindness projects by writing thank-you notes, creating positive posters, and completing acts of kindness throughout our school. My students are learning that even small actions can make a big difference.\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping us create a classroom where kindness, gratitude, and compassion are part of our daily lives. These books also cover a wide range of reading abilities so every single one of my students was able to find a book that was on their level as well as be introduced to some more challenging books that helped to push their fluency and comprehension! \r\n In my classroom, reading is one of our top priorities! We of course read titles that are part of our curriculum throughout the year, but I find it extremely important to allow my students to use a small portion of the day to choose what they would like to read. I have noticed that this has helped to foster an environment of young passionate readers. I also allow my students to use these books for various writing projects throughout the year and have found that those are their favorite activities to complete! The moment these new books arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students rushed to explore titles like Dog Man, The Bad Guys, and Magic Tree House, eagerly flipping through pages, sharing laughs, and asking if they could read \"just one more chapter.\" For many of my students, especially those who have struggled to find joy in reading, these books have opened the door to a new level of engagement and confidence.\r\nThese high-interest texts have allowed us to strengthen essential literacy skills in meaningful and authentic ways. During independent reading time, students are building stamina as they stay focused for longer periods. In small groups, we are practicing comprehension strategies such as making predictions, identifying character traits, and summarizing key events. The illustrations and humor in these books provide helpful context clues, supporting vocabulary development and improving overall understanding. I have also seen growth in fluency, as students are more willing to read aloud when they feel connected to the text.\r\nReading in our classroom now looks vibrant and student-driven. You'll see students curled up with books, reading quietly with smiles on their faces, or turning to a partner to excitedly talk about what just happened in the story. Our read-aloud time has become more interactive, filled with laughter, thoughtful discussions, and students making real-world connections. Even reluctant readers—those who once avoided books—are now reaching for them independently and asking to take them home.\r\nSeveral students have stood out in powerful ways. Students who previously struggled to stay engaged are now among the first to grab a book. Others who lacked confidence are volunteering to read aloud and share their thinking. One student recently told me, \"I didn't know reading could be this fun,\" which truly captures the impact of your support. These moments are building not only stronger readers but also more confident learners.\r\nYour donation has done more than provide books—it has created opportunities, sparked curiosity, and helped students see themselves as capable, successful readers. Donations like yours truly make a difference in the daily experiences our students have at school, and we are very grateful for your support.\r\nAt our school, students move between areas outside throughout the day, and when the ground gets wet it can quickly become muddy and slippery. Before this project, students often had to carefully step through muddy spots or try to avoid puddles when moving between areas. With the paving stones from this project, we are able to create a much safer and cleaner path for students to walk on. This simple improvement helps students stay dry, prevents slips, and keeps muddy shoes from being tracked back into the classroom.\r\nMy students were very excited when they heard about the new materials. Many of them immediately understood how helpful the stones will be and started talking about how much easier it will be to get around outside after rain. Small changes like this can make a big difference in their day, and it helps create an environment where students can focus more on learning and less on obstacles like mud and messy shoes.\r\nAnother important part of this project is the sense of pride students feel when they see improvements happening around their school. They know that someone cared enough to support them and their learning environment. Your generosity shows them that people beyond our classroom believe in them and want them to have a safe and welcoming place to learn and grow.\r\nBecause of your support, we are able to make our outdoor areas more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. It was a powerful moment of curiosity and wonder.\r\nWe are using these resources to explore weathering, erosion, fossils, and life cycles through hands-on experiments. One favorite activity has been using the rock tumbler to observe how rough rocks slowly change into smooth, polished stones. Students recorded observations, compared \"before and after\" results, and connected what they saw to natural processes that occur on Earth over long periods of time. The fossil activities allowed students to think like paleontologists, carefully excavating and identifying fossils while discussing what they reveal about life long ago.\r\nNext, students will continue observing the tumbling process, graphing changes, writing reflections, and connecting their learning to real-world science careers. Because of you, my students now have the opportunity to move, focus, and learn in ways that truly fit their needs. The FitDesk Standing Exercise Bike Desks you helped fund have transformed our classroom into a space where movement and learning work together — a place where students can pedal their way toward focus, creativity, and success.\r\n\r\nI teach an energetic and curious group of learners who love to explore new ideas, collaborate with one another, and discover how things work. Our classroom is always buzzing with laughter, teamwork, and curiosity. Many of my students are at their best when they can move while they think — whether it's fidgeting, standing, stretching, or walking in place as they read. These new bike desks meet that need perfectly. They allow students to channel their energy in a positive way while staying engaged and attentive.\r\n\r\nWhen we first introduced the FitDesks, the excitement was immediate. Students were fascinated by the idea that they could move and learn at the same time. After our first rotation, one student proudly said, \"I can actually think better when I pedal!\" Others commented that they felt calmer, more focused, and even happier during lessons. For students who often struggle to sit still or stay on task, the ability to gently move while reading or working has made a world of difference.\r\n\r\nThe bike desks are quiet and easy to use, fitting naturally into our classroom routine. During independent reading, math practice, or writing time, students can take turns at our new \"Pedal and Learn\" station. They're learning to self-regulate and recognize when movement helps them focus best. It's been incredible to see how much ownership they take of their learning when they have options that work for their bodies and brains.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic benefits, the FitDesks have brought joy and wellness into our classroom. Students love setting small goals — like reading a certain number of pages or completing a math challenge while pedaling. They cheer one another on, track their progress, and celebrate effort as much as achievement. The bikes have even inspired meaningful conversations about health, balance, and the importance of taking care of both mind and body.\r\n\r\nFor some of my students, especially those who benefit from sensory input or need help managing focus, these bikes have been a game-changer. Instead of being asked to sit still, they now have a positive, productive outlet for movement. I've seen quieter students gain confidence, energetic students channel their enthusiasm into learning, and everyone build a deeper understanding of how their bodies help their brains learn.\r\n\r\nOur school values the whole child, but our resources are limited. Before this project, we had only a few flexible seating options. The FitDesks have added variety, choice, and excitement to our learning space. They make our classroom feel more inclusive — a place where every student can find their own best way to learn.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has done more than fund equipment; it has created opportunity, motivation, and joy. You've given my students the gift of movement, focus, and confidence — tools that will serve them far beyond our classroom walls. Each time a student pedals through a story, practices math facts while cycling, or smiles because they've found their rhythm, I'm reminded of the kindness that made it all possible.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of hands-on, hearts-in learning. Because of you, our students are growing stronger minds and healthier bodies every single day. You've turned our classroom into a place where learning moves — literally! — and for that, we are endlessly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1762265980048,"projectUrl":"project/pedal-power-for-focused-learners/9867693/","projectTitle":"Pedal Power for Focused Learners!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Donegan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6487535_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753932565454","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6487535"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42883","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":579,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":76,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":21.5,"schoolId":42883,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Liberty Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Liberty Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/bedford-county-school-district/liberty-elementary-school/42883"}
