As a computer science specials teacher in a Title 1 school, I see my kids on a rotating basis for just 45 minutes at a time. Because our time together is so fast-paced, having a full set of robots is a true game-changer—it means every single student is actively engaged in coding rather than waiting for a turn.\r\n\r\nWe immediately put the new Indis to work. We've been focusing heavily on Pair Programming lately, and having this complete fleet makes it so much easier for my students to practice taking turns as the \"Driver\" and the \"Navigator\" without distractions. Just this week, I watched a pair of students trying to guide their Indi through a color-coded tile maze. The Navigator noticed their robot kept going off course. They talked it through, swapped out the color command tiles, and when the Indi successfully navigated the corner, they cheered in excitement at their success!\r\n\r\nNow that our fleet is complete and we have enough robots to go around, our next step is to level up our challenges. The students are going to start designing physical neighborhoods out of classroom materials and will need to program the most efficient routes for the Indis to safely navigate to specific destinations. While the original robot I requested was out of stock, your flexibility allowed me to pivot and bring two incredible tools into our lab: our very first Sphero Indi and a Sphero Bolt. As a computer science teacher in a Title 1 school, having these versatile robots is a massive win for my K-5 students. Their eyes lit up the moment the Indi followed its first color-coded tile and the Bolt's LED matrix flashed to life—they knew immediately that their coding was about to get much more \"real.\"\r\n\r\nWe have been using these resources to dive deep into computational thinking during our 45-minute specials block. The Indi has been perfect for my younger students to practice the fundamentals of sequencing, while my older students are using the Bolt to explore more complex loops and sensor data. These robots are the heart of our \"Pair Programming\" practice; I've watched students take on the roles of \"Driver\" and \"Navigator\" with intense focus. \r\n\r\nNow that we have the Indi and the Bolt in our hands, our next step is to begin the \"Active Empathy\" phase of the project. Students will be tasked with designing inclusive environments and programming their robots to navigate obstacles that represent real-world accessibility challenges. Your support has given my students a tangible way to see how coding can solve problems and help others.
