They were so excited to each receive their own new journal! They were so impressed with the colorful and shiny cover and how sturdy and well make the journals are! They take really good care of them because they know they are special and that someone cared enough to donate to our project so they can each have their own.\r\n\r\nWe teach Social Emotional Learning lessons all year long and one of the most important concepts is that of having a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset. The read aloud books and the journals are a perfect way for the students to learn, discuss, read about, write about, and internalize this important principle. As you can see in the photo, the students give the read aloud books three thumbs up. We had a reading unit early in the year about The Human Body so they love learning more about how their brain works. The journals are a good way to share age appropriate examples of children learning they can change and they can learn to do new and/or hard things. The journal also gives them space to record their ideas, memories, and feelings about the concepts taught.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for allowing me to extend my students' experiences and learning on their social emotional journey. These materials have truly transformed our learning environment.\r\n\r\nWe are using the modular play couch as a flexible seating and collaborative space during small-group lessons. Students build different configurations and then gather together for reading, partner work, or structured literacy games. The big blue beanbag has quickly become a favorite independent reading spot, giving students a comfortable place to focus and regulate their bodies while working. The calming canopy has created a peaceful corner where students can reset, practice breathing strategies, or complete quiet tasks when they need a break. The lap desks are used daily for writing, drawing, and hands-on activities, especially for students who benefit from alternative seating options.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include continuing to build independent work stamina within these flexible spaces and using the calming area to explicitly teach self-regulation strategies. Although they may seem like a small item, the pencil holders (seen at the top edge of the desks in several photos) are a game changer. The students used to have to pull out their whole box from their desk each time they wanted to write with their pencil. So much time is now saved because the students can just reach to the top of their desk, grab their pencil and begin their work! The holders also save the pencils from rolling off the desks and breaking so time is saved going back and forth to get a new pencil!\r\n\r\nAs you can see from the photos, the Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) gift card allows me to provide the students with many engaging projects and learning activities. During Hispanic Heritage Month, the students learned about many individuals' lives and how they persevered through trials, used their experiences to succeed in life, and how they used their knowledge and talents to benefit others. After that they used the TPT portraits to choose one of the people we studied to create colorful pictures. The TPT opinion writing templates I was able to purchase are helping the students progress through the writing process and have fun while doing it! We just celebrated the 67th day of school, you know 6...7! The TPT 67 booklet allowed the students to have such a great time while practicing their number formation, addition facts, fact families, writing of word problems, and writing an acrostic poem. \r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you so much for all you have done to enrich my students' learning experiences!
