Not only are they working in small teams or pairs, but they are then making their thinking and the processes visible to everyone else. It has been great. We have used them to share their thinking about reading. Students discuss their thoughts, then add it to their boards. The share time is easily presented to others. \r\n\r\nWe also used it in math. Students were all solving the same problems but could easily share the many strategies used to solve their problems. The tags are perfect with a little image of the book title on it. \r\nWe wear our chains every Friday. We do a celebration on Friday afternoons and students earn tags for many things, but these tags have become so of their favorites. I always read the book to the class first, and then I add it to their shelf that they may choose from. They usually race to get to those books. \r\nAfter reading the book, they take a short and simple quiz. If they score a 70% or higher they receive the tag for their book. Some of their chains have 5 or 6 of these books already. They wear these proudly. The tools they have at hand make them much more independent. They were thrilled to receive their own personal dictionaries. I often see them pulling them out and finding the words they are trying to spell. I was hearing \"how do I spell....?\", but now they are empowered in their independence. \r\nThey love having choice at writing time. The paper choices have been motivating for writers. The sheet protectors are in their writing folders, and as I teach lessons and introduce resources, copies are placed in these protectors. They have the needed tools at hand. \r\nMy writers have become so much more independent. I know they will grow this year. Who knows, one day they may be a published writer! They love them and are having so much fun! I was able to get some fun new sand toys at the end of the summer and they are enjoying what they can create together. \r\nThe students are also working on sharing and taking turns, along with just the opportunity to be outside, getting fresh air and being able to have free play.
