I would love to start reading Wonder with my students in August. This book will help set the tone of my classroom community for the whole year. R.J. Palacio's book touches on important themes such as acceptance, friendship, family, bullying, perspective, love, and what it means to be different. I anticipate great discussions revolving around the main charater, Auggie, as he starts school for the first time. My students will learn not to judge someone based on his or her appearance, that being different can be a good thing, and that when they are "GIVEN THE CHOICE BETWEEN BEING RIGHT OR BEING KIND, CHOOSE KIND.” ~Wonder Donations to my project will help to create a classroom community of acceptance, inspire deep thinking class discussions, and change how my students treat people throughout their lives. My students' views on challenges and acceptance will be positively affected after learning about Auggie who perseveres through life's challenges. He was an inspiration to me, and I know he will be an inspiration to my students! My students will also learn about what it means to be a true friend and how an event can have different meanings depending on whose point of view you are looking through. "Courage. Kindness.
