They were so excited to come in and see the balance balls, rug, and new activities that were available! The balance balls and wiggle feet cushion have become class favorites and the students ask to use them constantly. They help tremendously with my students who have a lot of energy and have a hard time focusing. They have been much more focused since being able to use different kinds of seating and fidgeting materials. They also love the putty! It helps them to relax and destress when they get frustrated or unfocused and it quickly brings them back to center. \r\n\r\nThe activities have been so helpful! The students love the Ice Cream cone game where they get to count the right amount of ice cream scoops. It has helped a lot of them with their counting skills, comparing numbers, one to one correspondence, and even helped with filling in missing numbers. The number bonds have been a great way to use hands on materials to teach students and I can see them having an easier time grasping the concepts they are learning. \r\n\r\nEverything that has been so graciously donated has been enormously helpful and impactful and used with so much love! Even the rug has made our classroom feel more comfortable and homey and like a place where the students can learn safely. Thank you so much for supporting me and my students! Students are using our new flexible seating options every single day—both for individual accommodations and for whole-class choices that support their learning. One moment that stands out was during reading time, when a student who typically struggles to stay focused settled into a wobble stool and was able to stay engaged through an entire lesson on silent letter patterns like kn, wr, igh, and mb. These tricky concepts became much more manageable because students were able to choose seating that truly fit their needs.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were thrilled. There was so much excitement and curiosity as they explored the different seating options and tried out their favorites. The healthy snacks were just as popular—students were grateful to have something delicious and nourishing, especially those who often come to school without a snack or who have food sensitivities at home. Having snacks ready each day has helped students feel cared for and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nAs we continue building foundational reading skills, these resources are helping us take our learning to the next level. Flexible seating keeps students focused and comfortable during challenging lessons, and our snacks support their energy and attention during our student-led math routines. Each week, a student leader guides the class in practicing place value and reviewing previously learned concepts—all while the class enjoys their daily snack. These routines strengthen both independence and confidence, and the support from this grant has made them even more successful. We are deeply grateful for the generosity that made this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1755697578318,"projectUrl":"project/helping-hearts-growing-minds-in-2nd-gr/9588211/","projectTitle":"Helping Hearts & Growing Minds in 2nd-grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Golden","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10174945_orig.jpg?crop=1008,1008,x0,y53&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755116857641","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10174945"},{"teacherId":8836372,"projectId":9572740,"letterContent":"The impact of your donations has spread across every single student and class at my small elementary school. When the students first saw the wobble stools and the bright yellow, flower-shaped sensory spin chair, their excitement was palpable—it brought an energy and curiosity that immediately transformed our learning environment. Now, seven weeks into the school year, that initial enthusiasm has only grown, as the tools continue to inspire creativity, self-regulation, and active engagement in every lesson.\r\n\r\nEvery day, each student has the opportunity to choose a wobble stool—a flexible seating option that gives them a safe way to move their bodies while learning. This has led to more focused, attentive, and comfortable learners. The tools are being used appropriately and effectively, seamlessly integrating into our daily routines and supporting both academic and emotional growth.\r\n\r\nIn our shared space, the sensory spin chair is a steadfast resource for regulation. With its cheerful design and supportive weight limit that accommodates everyone at Lead Mine, including staff, it has become a favorite for moments when a little sensory reset is needed. The ongoing, controlled use of these tools continues to support our teaching strategies and enhances every student's learning experience.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly made a difference, fostering a nurturing and dynamic environment that helps each student thrive. The games and activities that I had were 15 years old and in desperate need of a refresh. The new lego sets and craft activities have been a hit for these kids for indoor recess and during time when students have finished their work.\r\n\r\nThe students are practicing working together and sharing responsibilities. These are crucial social skills to build during this developmental age. My current class was affected by Covid during a critical developmental age. One student whispered, \"It feels like Christmas!\" It was such a joy to see how something as simple as new supplies could spark so much wonder and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nWe've already started putting the materials to good use. In one of our first projects of the year, my first graders created texture creatures in colorful landscapes. With the new paints and drawing tools, they were able to layer, mix, and experiment in ways they hadn't been able to before. The students proudly shared their work with each other, pointing out the colors and details they could finally add thanks to the supplies you helped provide.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll be diving into projects that explore both personal expression and cross-curricular connections—such as creating abstract art inspired by music, and solar system collages that link science and art.
