Your support has made a tangible difference in how we organize and engage with learning materials within a new literacy curriculum. The students were thrilled to receive their own binders, with many of them proudly personalizing their covers and labeling their dividers, treating them like treasured tools. Students were excited to have a designated space for their materials, and I'm excited to have one place to look and review their literacy work.\r\n\r\nWe've begun using the binders daily to track reading logs, vocabulary, writing samples, and comprehension exercises. The dividers help students keep each section neat and easy to access, which has already improved their independence and sense of ownership over their learning. Looking ahead, we'll be adding student reading reflections and book reviews to create personalized literacy portfolios. Your donation helped lay the foundation for this growth, and I am deeply grateful for your investment in my students' futures.","fullyFundedDate":1750773668728,"projectUrl":"project/new-literacy-organization/9365701/","projectTitle":"New Literacy Organization","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Penta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10039020_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756037168814","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10039020"},{"teacherId":9526916,"projectId":9027136,"letterContent":"During April, May and June, I introduced the new materials from my \"Game On: Engaging Writing Center Materials\" project. First, I started by passing out choice pens. There was so much excitement around choosing colors and textures that it made the actual writing assignments easier to manage. I saw students write more- which is always an issue with struggling writers- because they wanted to continue to use the pens.\r\n\r\nOn different days and with different age groups, I played the games and used the game materials. Teaching grammar was often a chore for them and for me, but playing games to help the students understand grammar increased the students' motivation to learn. One sentence building game, in particular, was a big success with all age groups.\r\n\r\nAlthough I have been a teacher for many years, I am new to my writing intervention job. These hands-on tools turned learning into an experience that was more exciting and less intimidating. The act of tracing letters didn't just help with letter formation and connecting the sound and letter; it also made the process more enjoyable. For kids who found reading tough, being able to divide words with Wiki Stix or touch and move the letters around helped them better understand how words worked, making it easier for them to connect with the material. When learning felt like play, they were more likely to dive in with curiosity and a sense of confidence, instead of feeling overwhelmed or frustrated.\r\n\r\nThese interactive tools didn't just make learning more fun; they also gave kids a sense of accomplishment that boosted their motivation. As they succeeded in small ways with these hands-on activities, their confidence grew, and they started to see reading and writing as something they could tackle, rather than something to avoid. It was a simple yet powerful way to make learning feel accessible and even exciting, helping students build a stronger connection to reading and writing, and ultimately, setting them up for success in the long run.","fullyFundedDate":1736434539094,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning/9027541/","projectTitle":"Hands On Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Demsey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9380194_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x510,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701098756053","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9380194"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61971","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":630,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":9,"percentAsian":33,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":41,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.8,"schoolId":61971,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lawrence Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lawrence Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/brookline-public-school-district/lawrence-elementary-school/61971"}
