Because of you, my students now have access to meaningful, engaging texts that go far beyond basic reading instruction. In our learning environment, books are not simply tools for practicing skills—they are the foundation for deep thinking, rich discussion, and personal growth. Many of my students are already strong readers, and your donation allows me to meet them where they are by providing literature that challenges them intellectually and emotionally. These books open the door for students to explore complex themes, analyze character motivations, and consider perspectives that may be different from their own. This kind of reading experience encourages them to ask thoughtful questions, make connections, and develop a deeper understanding of both the text and the world around them.\r\n\r\nWith these new books, our classroom has become an even more dynamic space for collaborative learning and critical thinking. Students are engaging in discussions where they learn to support their ideas with evidence, listen to others, and refine their thinking. These experiences are especially important for advanced learners, who thrive when given opportunities to go beyond surface-level comprehension and truly engage with ideas. Your support ensures that these students are not simply completing more work, but are instead experiencing richer, more meaningful learning that helps them grow as confident, thoughtful readers and thinkers. It also allows me to cultivate a classroom culture where curiosity is valued, effort is meaningful, and students see themselves as capable of tackling challenging material.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your generosity places these books directly into the hands of students who are eager to learn and ready to be challenged. Access to the right materials can transform a student's experience with reading, turning it from a task into a passion. The impact of your donation will extend far beyond a single lesson or unit—it will influence how students view reading, learning, and themselves as learners. Thank you for investing in my students and for helping create opportunities that inspire them to think deeply, engage fully, and develop a lifelong love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1771011984186,"projectUrl":"project/growing-readers-through-book-clubs/10091804/","projectTitle":"Growing Readers Through Book Clubs","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pence","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp986132_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472777344543","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/spence"},{"teacherId":986132,"projectId":10073452,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generous support of our classroom. Because of your kindness, our Cambridge program students were provided with engaging books, comfortable seat cushions, and snacks that transformed our classroom into a space where reading, discussion, and connection could truly thrive.\r\nYour donations allowed us to structure our reading into meaningful four-week units, where students didn't just read—they experienced literature together. With books in hand and snacks to enjoy, we created a welcoming, book club–style environment where students felt excited to participate. These moments became something they looked forward to, and it showed in their enthusiasm and commitment.\r\nTogether, we completed an impressive collection of novels: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Matilda, City of Ember, Number the Stars, Restart, Hoot, and Frindle. For many of my students, this was more reading than they had ever completed in such a focused and engaged way. Your support helped turn reluctant readers into motivated ones, and it was incredible to watch their confidence grow with each book.\r\nNot only did students increase their reading stamina, but they also made significant progress toward meeting—and in many cases exceeding—their Accelerated Reader (AR) goals. More importantly, they became stronger, more thoughtful readers. Through our discussions, they learned how to express their ideas clearly, listen to others, and respectfully build on different perspectives.\r\nOne of the most impactful outcomes was the development of their conversation skills. Students practiced using text evidence to support their thinking, which deepened their comprehension and encouraged critical thinking. These are skills that extend far beyond the classroom and will benefit them throughout their academic journeys.\r\nThe books we read were intentionally chosen to align with Cambridge challenges, allowing students to explore complex themes and real-world connections. Through extension activities, they engaged in poetry analysis, research projects, and thematic explorations of topics such as dystopian societies and endangered animals. These activities helped students see literature as more than just stories—they became windows into larger ideas and global issues.\r\nThe addition of seat cushions may seem simple, but it made a big difference. Students were able to create comfortable, flexible seating arrangements that made our discussions feel more relaxed and collaborative. Combined with the snacks you provided, it created a sense of community and belonging that made every student feel valued and included.","fullyFundedDate":1770668837631,"projectUrl":"project/cozy-book-club-spaces-to-boost-critical/10073452/","projectTitle":"Cozy Book Club Spaces to Boost Critical Thinking","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pence","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp986132_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472777344543","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/spence"},{"teacherId":9614106,"projectId":9512093,"letterContent":"Having this iPad has helped tremendously in the classroom, as I have been able to download various communication applications for my students to use to help \"find their voice.\" Recently, we have downloaded TD Snap to practice basic communication skills, such as commenting and requesting in the therapy room. We have also been using it to label common items (e.g., foods, animals, colors) to help familiarize them with this new communication device. \r\n\r\nMy students now have a way to communicate their thoughts and ideas, make comments, and answer questions during speech & language therapy sessions. They also can use it to play fun learning games that will help them learn new vocabulary, inferencing, object-functions, and SO MUCH MORE!!!
