Seeing the braiding supplies, learning materials, and practice tools created an excitement that was contagious. Their smiles, curiosity, and eagerness to begin reminded me why creating this program was so important.\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments was watching the students interact with one another while exploring the materials. They asked thoughtful questions, encouraged each other, and eagerly shared the hairstyles they hope to learn. The room quickly filled with laughter, conversation, and excitement as they realized they were about to begin learning a brand-new skill together.\r\nThroughout our first lesson, students were introduced to the basic tools of braiding, healthy hair care practices, and the importance of sanitation and professionalism. Before they ever picked up a comb to braid, they were already learning that caring for someone's hair begins with caring for the person.\r\nAs the week continues, students will build on these foundations by learning how to create box braids, cornrows, and feed-in braids while also learning proper client care, healthy hair maintenance, and the value of patience, practice, and perseverance.\r\nWhat makes this program so special is that it goes beyond teaching braiding techniques. It is helping students build confidence, communicate with one another, solve problems, and discover talents they may never have realized they possessed. Every lesson is designed to remind them that growth comes through practice and that every small success deserves to be celebrated.\r\nBecause of your generosity, these students are gaining skills that extend far beyond the classroom. For some, this experience may become a lifelong hobby. For others, it may become the beginning of an entrepreneurial journey or future career. Most importantly, they are learning to believe in themselves.\r\nThank you for investing in our students and helping us create a safe, positive, and encouraging environment where confidence grows one braid at a time. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference, and we are deeply grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1778116195775,"projectUrl":"project/beyond-the-bell-teaching-braiding-conf/10272341/","projectTitle":"Beyond the Bell: Teaching Braiding, Confidence, and Life Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lay","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10412599_orig.png?crop=244,244,x0,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1778113459664","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10412599"},{"teacherId":10416080,"projectId":10052357,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our project, \"From Sticky Notes to College Goals.\" Your generosity is already making a difference in my AVID classroom at Lake Shore Middle School. \r\n\r\nWith these simple yet powerful tools, my students are learning how to organize their thoughts, set goals, and take ownership of their learning. Students are more focused, more independent, and more engaged than ever before.\r\n\r\nWith the ability to clearly hear instructions and actively participate in the software, my students have taken ownership of their learning. Their effort and consistency led to our class earning the \"Shack Attack Award\" for outstanding usage of the Read 180 program—an achievement we are incredibly proud of.\r\n\r\nEven more importantly, I have seen meaningful academic and personal growth:\r\n• Increased reading confidence\r\n• Improved comprehension and fluency\r\n• Higher grades and stronger performance\r\n• Greater student accountability and perseverance\r\n\r\nWhen you see our classroom in action, you'll notice students fully immersed in learning—working quietly, staying on task, and pushing themselves to succeed.
