Our school was built almost 30 years ago and our library collection has reflected that age. Most of our collection contains books that are over ten years old, and the physical condition of said books aren't great. When I took on this library a year ago, I had the goal set to refresh the library so kids would want to read. One part of that goal starts with replacing popular books that are damaged. \r\n\r\nWhile I always try to get the students to choose lesser-known titles, there will always be a few series that stand the test of time with every class that walks through. Dogman, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, I Survive, and Wings of Fire are some to name a few. For MLL students, a lot of these popular books help them with learning English and connect with their classmates. Having a nice clean book that will last for a while will help more students have books in their hands.","fullyFundedDate":1760464197990,"projectUrl":"project/replenish-the-library/9825903/","projectTitle":"Replenish the Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rust","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10311097"},{"teacherId":7101642,"projectId":9819560,"letterContent":"The new resources will be used daily to create meaningful, engaging learning experiences for my students. The chapter books will launch our invite-only book club, where reluctant readers are personally invited to join a small group lunch discussion. This special setting makes reading feel exciting and low-pressure, and students will read a shared chapter book, discuss characters, plot, and favorite moments, and build confidence as readers. The whiteboards and markers will be used during math lessons for quick problem-solving, modeling strategies, and explaining thinking, allowing every student to actively participate rather than passively observe.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and contagious. The idea of a \"fancy\" book club lunch made reluctant readers feel chosen and valued, and several students asked when they could start reading right away. The whiteboards were an instant hit—students loved being able to show their work and erase mistakes without fear. The hopsacks brought pure joy and laughter, with students already cheering each other on and talking about earning time for friendly sack race competitions through completing assignments and showing positive behavior.\r\n\r\nNext, students will begin their first book club cycle, reading independently and preparing discussion questions to share during lunch meetings. In math, we will continue building skills through interactive practice using the whiteboards, focusing on explaining reasoning and learning from mistakes. The hopsacks will be tied into our classroom incentive system, motivating students to stay engaged, complete their work, and collaborate with peers. Thanks to our donors, learning is becoming more hands-on, motivating, and joyful every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1760318039987,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning-and-book-club/9819560/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Learning and Book Club","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7101642"},{"teacherId":10308336,"projectId":9816100,"letterContent":"In our classroom, we are committed to meeting the diverse and individualized needs of each student in order to support their academic and social-emotional success. One of the most effective ways we promote student regulation and learning is through the use of strategic and flexible seating options. Many of our students benefit from opportunities for movement to support their sensory and energy needs; however, we also recognize that movement must be balanced with meaningful instructional time. Flexible seating allows us to thoughtfully meet both needs.\r\n\r\nWith explicit expectations and consistent routines in place, students are able to develop autonomy by selecting seating options that best support their ability to learn productively. Thanks to your generous donation, our classroom now has access to a variety of flexible seating options. These include wobble feet attachments that transform standard chairs into movement-friendly seating, as well as adjustable wobble stools that provide opportunities for greater whole-body movement while students engage in learning.\r\n\r\nWhen students learned that we would be receiving new flexible seating options, they were overjoyed. Access to a variety of seating choices allows each student to select what works best for them during independent work, small-group instruction, and whole-group lessons. These options support students in regulating their bodies through gentle movement, helping them remain engaged in their learning throughout the classroom.\r\n\r\nCurrently, our class is beginning a new reading unit in which students gather as a whole group to read *Treasure Island* by Robert Louis Stevenson. During this unit, students are asked to sit for extended periods while listening to chapters, participating in discussions, and completing related activities. Flexible seating plays a critical role in supporting student engagement during these times by promoting both physical and cognitive regulation through appropriate movement.","fullyFundedDate":1760303120638,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-for-special-education-s/9816100/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating for Special Education Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lunsford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10308336"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_70310","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":613,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"4 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":70310,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lake Forest Central Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lake Forest Central Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/lake-forest-school-district/lake-forest-central-elementary-school/70310"}
