Students in grades K-5 partnered with a buddy class (K/3, 1/4, 2/5) and went through three stations. The stations included building Snuffle Balls, creating hygiene and snack kits with Chai for Charity, making ornaments and bookmarks, and planting gardens and painting rocks to beautify our school grounds with Garden To Table. Pre-school also participated by painting rocks for school gardens.\r\nOver 450 students and 100 volunteers participated in our Day of Service. Three community organizations were positively impacted by our work. These four include: Meals on Wheels, Broomfield FISH, and Luvin' Arms. Our very own Lafayette Elementary school also benefited from the students' hard work improving our school grounds.\r\nThis fall, Natasha Wright and Nicole Kallsen led a Fall Service Club for 50 students. Over four weeks, the service Club participated in four community service projects. These projects included: Birthday Bags for local food banks (cake mix, frosting, candles, birthday banner, balloons), Holiday Cookie Making Kits for local families in need, No-Sew Blankets for Childrens' Hospital, Seed Bombs to support native pollinators and Thank You cards for community helpers.\r\nEarly civic engagement fosters leadership, resilience, and social-emotional skills that benefit students far beyond K–12 while strengthening families and communities, making this event an investment in the lifelong civic and personal development of our children. Research shows that youth who volunteer are 19% more likely to graduate from college and have 27% higher odds of employment (Youth.gov), are 97% more likely to be flourishing (California Youth Commissions, 2023), and experience better physical and mental health, including 25% lower rates of anxiety (Time, 2023).\r\nThank you for supporting us in this amazing experience! They take care of babies by changing their clothes, giving them baths, washing and ironing clothes, and feeding them. They create imaginative combinations of foods to serve to each other, and are learning how to sort foods into their individual food groups.\r\nI am looking forward to transforming our playspaces throughout this school year, introducing the market and the ice cream cart. They will have the opportunity to experience a Dinosaur Dig, a Pumpkin Market, and a Bakery. These donations are going to allow me to keep these areas fresh and exciting year round!\r\nDramatic play has a profound affect on students' social emotional learning opportunities and growth. We have daily real-world opportunities to solve problems through conversation, negotiation, and compromise. We practice and build our language skills and vocabulary as students pretend they are parents, babies, puppeteers, cashiers, chefs, archeologists, and more! The items that I was able to purchase have helped me organize students' learning materials, making them more accessible to students. They have helped students easily return materials and keep our classroom organized. Everything in our classroom has a home, which will help keep our materials in good condition for years to come.\r\nThe students are very excited to have personal bags for their headphones. They absolutely love the three tier cart that holds all of our baby items for our dramatic play house. They know where everything goes, and make sure to put it back at the end of playtime. The bins for the food in the kitchen have helped students keep our refrigerator and play cupboards organized. An added bonus, is that the bins have helped students learn how to sort foods by their food groups! The colored baskets makes finding centers so easy. This allows greater independence for students. \r\nI am excited to see how the organization continues to support students as new playtime stations are rolled out each month. Having an organized classroom makes everything run smoother. It was the first time we had music at the parade thanks to having a portable bluetooth system. Bluetooth technology is a wonderful thing! \r\n\r\nMy students were also so excited to use the new scooters in our \"Sink the Ship\" game. Before, students had to use scooters that were too small and all different sizes.
