Because of your generosity, our middle school science classroom now has the ScanMarker Pro Voice Reader and Translator, and I am excited to share the tremendous impact your gift is already making on our students.\r\n\r\nIn a middle school science classroom, hands-on discovery and inquiry are essential. However, dense textbook chapters, complex lab instructions, and heavy scientific vocabulary (like photosynthesis, ecosystem, and cellular respiration) can present significant hurdles. For our Special Education students and Multilingual Learners (English Learners), reading barriers often hide their true scientific potential. Your donation has directly broken down those barriers.\r\n\r\nHere is how your support is changing learning in our classroom every day:\r\n\r\nEmpowering Special Education Students: Students with reading disabilities, dyslexia, or processing delays often expend all their cognitive energy trying to decode difficult words. With the ScanMarker Pro, students can scan text and instantly hear it read aloud, allowing them to focus on understanding concepts, analyzing data, and participating fully in experiments.\r\n\r\nSupporting Multilingual Learners: Learning complex scientific ideas while simultaneously acquiring a new language is a massive challenge. The real-time translation features allow our English Learners to bridge their native language knowledge with new academic vocabulary, ensuring they don't fall behind in science while building English proficiency.\r\n\r\nBuilding Independence and Confidence: Before we received this tool, students frequently had to rely on a teacher or peer to read instructions or translate lab steps. Now, students scan and listen independently at their own pace. This independence has dramatically boosted their self-advocacy and confidence during lab activities and group projects.\r\n\r\nEnhancing Multimodal Learning: Science thrives when students connect visual, tactile, and auditory information. Seeing text on the page while hearing it spoken aloud reinforces phonics, pronunciation, and vocabulary retention for all types of learners.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our assessments now measure our students' actual scientific reasoning and creativity—not just their reading speed or language background. You have helped create an inclusive classroom where every student feels capable and empowered to explore the world around them.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and making a lasting difference in their education!","fullyFundedDate":1776442465868,"projectUrl":"project/breaking-the-literacy-barrier-in-middle/10113752/","projectTitle":"Breaking the Literacy Barrier in Middle School Science!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mendelsohn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5722574_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1666397186235","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5722574"},{"teacherId":4763392,"projectId":9702696,"letterContent":"We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful assortment of PBIS prizes you purchased for our school.
