Winter comes, the air dries and everyone is in need of chapstick and lotion. When spring rolls around, students navigate a playground that is no longer covered in snow, but not yet covered in grass either. It is the muddy season and fresh socks make all the difference when you've landed in a puddle. Toothbrushes are available, for those mornings kids oversleep and just barely make it to school on time. And you know the 5th graders pop in for a body wipe and some deodorant after an intense game of dodgeball in PE.\r\n\r\nHaving these materials ready and on-hand, is such a gift for our students and school community. Students return, week after week, but they also invite new friends to join. Successfully tying your first slip-knot is something to be celebrated. Figuring out how to hold the yarn and hook is so frustrating! Once they master the chain out though, they run with it. Some students are even ready to tackle the tricky second row. Students watch videos to learn the basic skills and then sit side by side, coaching one another. Many crocheted bracelets have been made so far, but one student has a chain as long as a jumprope too. I'm able to have math geared for them and then also for 4th.
