The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 laptop allows students to code, program, and complete CAD designs for engineering coursework and robotics projects directly in the classroom. This access is especially critical due to recent Texas laws that prohibit students from using personal devices during the school day, ensuring that learning remains uninterrupted and equitable for all students.\r\n\r\nThe CRAFTSMAN 6-gallon air compressor, titanium drill bit set, and polycarbonate Lexan sheets significantly expand students' hands-on fabrication capabilities. Students are now able to design, prototype, and build real components using industry-relevant materials and tools, reinforcing problem-solving, precision, and safety skills. Students shaped their copper wire into their desired shapes, then we went into the stockroom where it was dark enough to see the glow of the copper wire when we dipped it into the luminol/hydrogen peroxide solution. When the students saw the glowing wire, their eyes lit up and there were exclamations of awe from them! Each group asked me to take their picture so I could send it to them as they wanted to post on their own social media. It was really amazing! \r\n\r\nThis semester, my AP Chemistry students will have the opportunity to use the fluorescein to test the florescence at different pH levels. We're going to be tying it to our acids and bases unit. Because the schedule is so tight in preparing for the AP exam, we didn't have time to do the lab until we get to that unit. Just today, my AP Chemistry students were commenting on how comfortable the new goggles are! I haven't had to correct students in the lab setting as much as they don't mind wearing these new goggles!\r\n\r\nThe cabinet has offered a great storage system for the goggles. The students can easily pick which color they want to wear for the day. The goggles stay easily in their separate compartments. I can easily lock the cabinet between classes and set the UV light for various time frames in order to sterilize the goggles before the next group of students wear them. I am able to keep the storage cabinet in the back of the lab area so goggles are easily accessible before and after lab.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for the generous donation! Instead of only reading about aerospace concepts, students will design, build, solder, program, and fly their own aircraft in a safe, structured setting. These drones, soldering kits, and build-your-own components transform abstract STEM ideas into interactive learning experiences where students can see the direct results of their engineering decisions. This level of engagement builds confidence, deepens understanding, and inspires students who may have never seen themselves as future engineers or programmers.\r\n\r\nWith the addition of programmable drones and obstacle-course equipment, students will now be able to participate in authentic engineering challenges that mirror real industry applications—everything from autonomous navigation to flight stability and sensor integration. These experiences prepare them for high-demand careers in aerospace, robotics, computer science, and advanced manufacturing. They also open the door for our program to compete in future drone competitions, allowing students to showcase their skills at a higher level and represent our school with pride.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, every drone, tool, and battery purchased through this project acts as a launchpad for curiosity. Students who once hesitated to take risks in learning now have the opportunity to experiment, iterate, and problem-solve in ways that can't be replicated through textbooks alone. The grant does more than fund equipment—it fuels opportunities, empowers student creativity, and helps build the next generation of innovative thinkers and engineers.","fullyFundedDate":1755804427784,"projectUrl":"project/take-flight-empowering-future-engineers/9490296/","projectTitle":"Take Flight: Empowering Future Engineers With Drone Technology","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Zabel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/c-zabel"},{"teacherId":10088927,"projectId":9490822,"letterContent":"I cannot begin to thank you enough for your contribution to my classroom. \r\n\r\nMy students read for 10 minutes every day for their sustained reading time.
