The 3rd-grade students I worked with were beyond excited to receive these books for our novel study of Because of Winn-Dixie.\r\n\r\nThere is something powerful about each student having their own book in hand during lessons rather than simply listening to it read aloud or sharing with a partner. With their own copy to follow along, they can engage with the text more deeply- tracking the story, revisiting their favorite parts, and building confidence as readers. This shared experience helps students feel more connected to the novel while also creating a sense of community in the classroom, as we journey through the story together.\r\n\r\nThese classroom copies of books have opened the door to teaching a wide range of reading skills and life lessons. Academically, we used the novel to practice comprehension strategies such as making predictions, identifying character traits, and tracking cause-and-effect relationships. We also had an opportunity to study vocabulary in context and explore themes through writing and discussion. Because of Winn-Dixie naturally lends itself to conversations about kindness, empathy, and friendship, helping students see how books can teach us about both reading and life. \r\n\r\nThank you for your generous donation and for supporting our readers. You've given them both the tools and the inspiration to grow as learners.","fullyFundedDate":1741585361304,"projectUrl":"project/what-a-novel-idea-for-reading/9148591/","projectTitle":"What a Novel Idea for Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Scoggin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6404943_orig.jpg?crop=445,445,x0,y37&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1596839801996","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lisa-scoggin"},{"teacherId":1109000,"projectId":4874771,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom!
