Your kindness has already made a meaningful difference in our daily learning.\r\n\r\nBefore receiving this rug, our class did not have a comfortable space where everyone could gather together at the same time. Now, the rug is large enough to hold all of my students, which has completely transformed our whole-group instruction and our reading time.\r\n\r\nDuring our whole group reading time, students come together on the rug to practice early reading skills, listen to stories, work on phonics, and participate in small group lessons. Having a dedicated, comfortable space allows students to focus, stay engaged, and feel ready to learn. It has also created a calmer and more welcoming classroom environment.\r\n\r\nThe rug has had a positive impact on our students socially as well. Sitting together encourages respectful listening, turn-taking, and collaboration. Students are learning how to share space, follow routines, and support one another during discussions and activities.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this rug helps build a strong sense of community in our classroom. These resources have completely transformed our weekly PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings. Instead of just talking about \"what\" we're teaching, our team now sits down with these playbooks to ground our work in research-based strategies. We spend our time together stripping back state standards to write clear, kid-friendly learning targets and success criteria. It's been incredible to see our staff collaborate so deeply, ensuring that no matter which classroom a student is in, they are getting the same high-quality, focused instruction.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened during a recent PLC session when a group of us were stuck on a particularly wordy standard. Using the Playbook, we mapped out exactly what \"success\" looked like for that skill. We took those targets back to our students the next day, and the energy in the room shifted. I am able to walk up to nearly every student and they can explain what they are learning and how they will know if they have achieved the learning goal for the day.\r\n\r\nAs I continue to grow as a leader and collaborator, I'm excited to dive deeper into data-driven instruction. Now that our team is aligned on what we are teaching, our next step is using our weekly meetings to look at student work through the lens of these new success criteria. I'm especially looking forward to our upcoming units on opinion writing, where we can see the direct results of this newfound clarity in our students' growth. The new Who Would Win? books have already created a wave of excitement in our room, and they are helping my first graders grow as readers in powerful ways.\r\n\r\nThese texts introduce important early literacy skills, including comparing and contrasting, identifying key details, and making predictions. Because the series uses clear nonfiction features, my students are also learning how to read captions, examine diagrams, and use text clues to build understanding. The accessible language and engaging facts allow even developing readers to feel successful.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels like a true community experience. During partner reading time, students sit together with their matching copies and take turns reading aloud. The room fills with lively discussions as students share evidence from the text to support their ideas about which animal might win a matchup.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once hesitant to pick up a book now go straight to this series during independent reading.
