My students, seniors specifically, now have more choice in what they're reading and, therefore, are more engaged in their reading. We are using these books to break into groups, and the students engage in discussions about what they read for that day. We work hard on moving these discussions away from only plot-based questions and work on developing higher-level discussion points and having mature conversations about theme, conflict, characterization, and connections to real life. \r\n\r\nAfter distributing their books, students took some time to develop their own reading calendar, and then the room was silent. 100% of the students were actively reading their books. This is uncommon for a class of seniors. The items you provided have made a significant difference in my high school English classroom. The adjustable bar stools and high top table have created a more inviting and comfortable learning environment, encouraging students to engage in discussions and collaborative work.\r\n\r\nWe are safer with the window shade and automatic door stop and have even practiced using them in case of an intruder. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the sensory fidget toys and chair bands have proven invaluable for students who need to channel their energy in constructive ways, enhancing their focus and participation. I am able to give my students a choice where they work, and can provide the necessary materials for taking handouts around the room.
