We are currently reading the book The Secret Garden for literacy enrichment and creating art projects, acrylic on canvas paintings related to the chapters of the story. Students take home and bring back their painting supplies so they can work on them at home as well. \r\n\r\nStudents are encouraged to imagine the scenes of the chapters of The Secret Garden and then encouraged to decide what they would like to paint from their own imagination from the story, they will have the opportunity to paint, hopefully, several paintings. The students like to make it a game to see who can find the most words in a certain time limit. They also use the dictionaries to see the syllable break when we decode words.\r\nA few students take the initiative and ask to look something up in the dictionary during small group. The next step is to encourage more students to do the same. A physical dictionary has taught students how to navigate the pages to find the word(s) they need.
