Our district's social-emotional program has supported students for nearly 10 years, and this is our first year extending those services to high school students. When I started, I knew only about 25 students. Now, I'm making connections with around 150 students each day!\r\n\r\nOne way I'm building relationships with students is through Cafe Connect, a lunchtime activity where students answer a question of the day from our social-emotional learning program in exchange for a snack or piece of candy. It gives us a chance to share ideas, talk through different situations, and practice social-emotional skills in a casual, low-pressure setting. One of my favorite signs that it's catching on is that students now call me out if I miss a lunchtime Cafe Connect! They've come to look forward to this daily interaction, and it's become a fun way to make The Social Emotional Center part of their high school experience.\r\n\r\nOf course, the snacks serve another important purpose, too. Our rural community includes families facing financial challenges, and some students may not always have enough to eat. Having snacks available gives students access to food when they need it, helping reduce one source of stress so they can focus on learning, building relationships, and working through challenges. By making snacks available to all students, we can offer that support without singling anyone out.\r\n\r\nTSEC helps students develop resilience and practice the skills they need to regulate, relate, and reason through life's challenges. Your generosity helps us meet a basic need while creating opportunities for meaningful interactions with students. As we continue building TSEC at the high school, I'm grateful to have the resources to reach more students and help them feel supported.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and helping us get this program off the ground.
