They sorted, created patterns, shared, collaborated, and negotiated. That is where the popsicle sticks you bought me come in. I put the students' names and photos on them and put them in a little \"equity bucket.\" I close my eyes and pick one from the bucket and \"wah, la\" - the students have a sense of fairness in the knowledge that they will each get a chance. When we first brought out the 500 piece Pokemon puzzle, it was overwhelming and led to some arguing amongst the students while they were working. When we returned, the class created a visual representation of their favorite thing that they observed. \r\n\r\nHaving such a large volume of art materials, and a wide variety, has created a culture of artists who take charge of their own learning.
