Your contributions helped spark innovation, creativity, and lasting collaboration between students and teachers across continents.\r\n This past summer, we hosted a series of four week-long workshops in three provinces of South Africa, reaching 187 teachers. With your help, our students not only tested and refined engaging coding and robotics lessons, but also built 45 Micro:bit-based kits, each one assembled by hand, to be given to workshop participants. These kits became tools of empowerment, allowing teachers to explore coding, sensors, and hands-on engineering through accessible, real-world materials.\r\n Our workshops were designed to be more than one-time events. We held both foundational and advanced sessions, with the latter leveraging the experience of returning educators from last year's cohort. Teachers learned to code, use sensors like ultrasonic range finders, build robots from recycled and \"found\" materials, and even play games using Bluetooth-enabled remote controls. Every activity was rooted in solving local community problems, bringing relevance and urgency to their learning.\r\n But the learning didn't stop after the workshops ended. We continue to correspond with participants, sharing stories, photos, and new robotic builds from our classrooms in Hawai'i, thereby sustaining a meaningful connection that has evolved into an ongoing global dialogue of innovation and hope.\r\n Your belief in this project has created a ripple effect. You didn't just help us teach teachers; you helped us inspire new generations of problem solvers and makers, both here and halfway around the world.","fullyFundedDate":1746772683690,"projectUrl":"project/south-african-microbit-project/9311586/","projectTitle":"South African MicroBit Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Silver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3259480_orig.jpg?crop=533,533,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1649896141560","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3259480"},{"teacherId":9806413,"projectId":9780261,"letterContent":"Thanks to our donors, students are learning dip glazing and experimenting with the different glaze types we now have. I have loved the snacks, chocolates, dry erase markers, and cardstock paper so far. I have been continuing to use the snacks and chocolates as prizes for students using the vocabulary-word-of-the-day. The students have been excited about the consistent access to the candy and they have told me that further practicing the words have been helpful. My Key Club students have also started using the cardstock for cards that have been donated to non-profit organizations and retirement homes. In the past, we've always used construction paper for the cards, so the cardstock was a big step up from that. My Key Club kids were so excited and grateful to use the more stable material that looked more professional and formal. The expo markers have also been very helpful. I seem to always never have enough of those markers and this year has been the first year I have used little whiteboards for each group. These whiteboards are not actual whiteboards but just folder paper put into a clear sleeve, but they function well. My AP students used the expo pens when having multiple choice competitions. \r\n\r\nFor the future, I hope to use the snacks for other purposes as well. For example, I always give my AP students snacks in May on the morning of their AP exam so I may be able to use them for that if I do not run out at that time. I will also continue to use the snacks as prizes for debates, Kahoot review games, etc. I also hope to use the cardstock for future projects within the classroom as well (outside of Key Club) such as for one pager projects. \r\n\r\nThank you again!","fullyFundedDate":1759436823074,"projectUrl":"project/feeding-hearts-feeding-brains/9775987/","projectTitle":"Feeding Hearts, Feeding Brains","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Takayesu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9806903"},{"teacherId":8431744,"projectId":9773988,"letterContent":"I am so grateful for your support of our classroom through Donors Choose. Because we do not have a traditional quiet space, many students struggle with background noise when working independently, watching instructional videos, or using online learning tools. These headsets help minimize distractions and allow students to fully engage with personalized assignments, digital practice activities, and assessments. For many of them, this has been the first time they've been able to truly focus in a busy room—and it shows in their increased productivity and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been the sense of ownership and independence the headsets give them. They love being able to \"tune in\" to their learning and \"tune out\" the busyness around them. A few students who typically have difficulty concentrating have especially benefited; one student who usually rushes through tasks has started taking more time, replaying instructional videos, and even advocating for themselves by asking to use a headset when they know they'll focus better. Another student with sensory sensitivities has said that the headsets make the classroom feel calmer, helping them stay grounded and comfortable during work time.","fullyFundedDate":1759195525700,"projectUrl":"project/focus-through-the-noise-headphones-for/9772337/","projectTitle":"Focus Through the Noise: Headphones for Shared Learning Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rawlins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8826656"},{"teacherId":2320825,"projectId":9775812,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our classroom library project.\r\n\r\nThe new shelves have already started to change the feel of our room. Having these books and being able to display them visibly and invitingly has attracted my students' attention in a way that simple discussion never could. Students are naturally curious. They walk by, pause, and pick something up \"just to look.\" As all readers know, once you pick up one book, you rarely stop there. I see students reading during small breaks, trading recommendations with each other, and asking if they can borrow a book to take home. I see them settling into a quiet corner to reset and recharge. \r\n\r\nOur growing collection centers authors from Hawaiʻi and across the Asian diaspora. These are voices my students recognize. When students see stories that sound like home, something important happens. They feel seen and respected. They practice empathy without being told to. They speak up more in class discussions, including in math and computer science, because they trust that what they have to say matters.\r\n\r\nThese books are also helping in a very practical way. In AP Calculus and Computer Science, students are expected to focus for extended periods, analyze complex problems, and articulate their thinking clearly. High-interest STEM books, math puzzle books, and even comics about algorithms have become another tool for building those habits. Students are expanding academic vocabulary, building stamina for focused work, and connecting reading to the problem-solving and debugging we do at the whiteboard.\r\n\r\nI am not a reading teacher, but I am an avid reader, and I believe that reading is not so much taught as it is caught. I try to model reading for pleasure in all of my classes. Providing high-quality, relevant books that are not just textbooks, available for students to browse and borrow, is a vital part of helping them see themselves as readers, thinkers, and contributors.\r\n\r\nYour gift is not just furniture and books. You helped create a calm, welcoming space in a high school math and computer science classroom where students feel they belong, where they can slow down and think, and where curiosity is valued and protected. This is only the beginning of a classroom library that I hope will continue to grow and become a cherished resource for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1759447542065,"projectUrl":"project/read-local-think-global-culture-stem/9775812/","projectTitle":"Read Local, Think Global: Culture & STEM on the Shelf","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Ida","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2320825_orig.jpg?crop=736,736,x0,y41&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667057894291","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2320825"},{"teacherId":9727966,"projectId":8736372,"letterContent":"My students and I used all of these new supplies to bring Geometry to life in our classroom. The pens, paper, popsicle sticks, and much more helped students build visual models and see math in new, creative ways. One of our favorite moments was our Shark Tank Geometry Project. Students designed their own products that used geometric ideas to help with construction, then used the microphone and speaker to pitch their creations to the class. It felt like a real business pitch, and the students had so much fun getting into character while explaining the math behind their designs.\r\n\r\nAt first, the students were a bit confused on why all of these materials were in a math classroom. However, as soon as I set everything out, students began coming up with ideas for what they could create. The energy in the room immediately shifted! Math felt like a space for creativity and collaboration. In addition, when they realized they would get to use a microphone for their presentations, it brought a whole new level of excitement and confidence!\r\n\r\nWe recently started creating math posters that visually represent key concepts from our current unit. Students have been combining artistic design with mathematical reasoning, and the results have been wonderful to see (and display). Next, I want to try and continue this creative approach by having the students make visual math journals, where students will illustrate and explain concepts through drawings, diagrams, and real-world examples. These projects can help them express their understanding while finding confidence in learning math.","fullyFundedDate":1727022167652,"projectUrl":"project/building-bridges-math-projects-that-con/8736372/","projectTitle":"Building Bridges: Math Projects that Connect Students and Community","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Travis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9727966"},{"teacherId":9639213,"projectId":9161212,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support in our supplies.
