With reliable power, Chromebooks and tablets are available for assignments, formative assessments, and teacher‑directed lessons that use adaptive and AI tools to scaffold reading, writing, math, and life‑skills tasks. Many of our transition-age students rely on assistive technologies—such as text-to-speech, speech-to-text, screen readers, and symbol-based communication apps—to access content and participate. When devices are consistently charged, students don't miss practice opportunities, receive timely feedback, or fall behind because of a dead battery.\r\n\r\nStudents are most excited that they can use technology without interruption: they start work immediately, join group projects, and take devices on community outings with confidence. Those who benefit most are students who depend on technology for expressive and receptive communication; having charged devices lets them share ideas, understand others, and use AI tools to generate, organize, and refine thoughts. This reliable access strengthens communication, independence, and digital literacy—skills that directly translate to greater success after high school in employment, postsecondary programs, and daily life.","fullyFundedDate":1759792551926,"projectUrl":"project/powering-learning-charging-station/9518997/","projectTitle":"Powering Learning: Charging Station","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tui Moe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7929204_orig.jpg?crop=691,691,x25,y711&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689697201190","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7929204"},{"teacherId":8821954,"projectId":9775314,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support! We have already begun using the new resources in meaningful, hands-on ways, and they have truly brought our lessons to life. One standout classroom moment was when students used the kit to explore El Niño and La Niña. Instead of just reading about these climate patterns, students were able to see and model how ocean currents move and how the Coriolis effect influences weather system. This visual and interactive experience helped them make stronger connections between global climate events and the weather patterns we experience locally.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were filled with excitement and curiosity. Many were eager to touch, experiment, and ask questions. Several students commented that the concepts finally \"made sense\" once they could see them in action. The hands-on nature of the resources sparked thoughtful discussions and encouraged students who are usually quiet to participate and share their ideas.\r\n\r\nAs a next step, students have begun working on an indoor greenhouse project. They are growing plants while learning about food systems, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. This project helps put food production into perspective and opens conversations about how we can support local food growth and sustainability on our island. Moving forward, students will track plant growth, analyze environmental conditions, and discuss real-world solutions for building a more sustainable future. Your contributions helped spark innovation, creativity, and lasting collaboration between students and teachers across continents.\r\n This past summer, we hosted a series of four week-long workshops in three provinces of South Africa, reaching 187 teachers. With your help, our students not only tested and refined engaging coding and robotics lessons, but also built 45 Micro:bit-based kits, each one assembled by hand, to be given to workshop participants. These kits became tools of empowerment, allowing teachers to explore coding, sensors, and hands-on engineering through accessible, real-world materials.\r\n Our workshops were designed to be more than one-time events. We held both foundational and advanced sessions, with the latter leveraging the experience of returning educators from last year's cohort. Teachers learned to code, use sensors like ultrasonic range finders, build robots from recycled and \"found\" materials, and even play games using Bluetooth-enabled remote controls. Every activity was rooted in solving local community problems, bringing relevance and urgency to their learning.\r\n But the learning didn't stop after the workshops ended. We continue to correspond with participants, sharing stories, photos, and new robotic builds from our classrooms in Hawai'i, thereby sustaining a meaningful connection that has evolved into an ongoing global dialogue of innovation and hope.\r\n Your belief in this project has created a ripple effect. I have loved the snacks, chocolates, dry erase markers, and cardstock paper so far. I have been continuing to use the snacks and chocolates as prizes for students using the vocabulary-word-of-the-day. The students have been excited about the consistent access to the candy and they have told me that further practicing the words have been helpful. My Key Club students have also started using the cardstock for cards that have been donated to non-profit organizations and retirement homes. In the past, we've always used construction paper for the cards, so the cardstock was a big step up from that. My Key Club kids were so excited and grateful to use the more stable material that looked more professional and formal. The expo markers have also been very helpful. I seem to always never have enough of those markers and this year has been the first year I have used little whiteboards for each group. These whiteboards are not actual whiteboards but just folder paper put into a clear sleeve, but they function well. My AP students used the expo pens when having multiple choice competitions. \r\n\r\nFor the future, I hope to use the snacks for other purposes as well. For example, I always give my AP students snacks in May on the morning of their AP exam so I may be able to use them for that if I do not run out at that time. I will also continue to use the snacks as prizes for debates, Kahoot review games, etc. I also hope to use the cardstock for future projects within the classroom as well (outside of Key Club) such as for one pager projects. \r\n\r\nThank you again!","fullyFundedDate":1759436823074,"projectUrl":"project/feeding-hearts-feeding-brains/9775987/","projectTitle":"Feeding Hearts, Feeding Brains","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Takayesu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9806903"},{"teacherId":8431744,"projectId":9773988,"letterContent":"I am so grateful for your support of our classroom through Donors Choose.
