While learning about Vietnam, first graders studied the work of Dang Dinh Ngo depicting a landscape of lotus flowers. Students learned about the significance of the lotus flower to those from Vietnam, then used the new tempera cakes to create their own vibrant lotus flower landscapes. \r\n\r\nThird graders are learning about Panama. Students had the opportunity to hear from a staff member from Vietnam and her daughter who is a Panamanian representative. Students learned about the golden frog, which was once believed to be extinct, but is now being repopulated. Students discovered the importance of the golden frog as a symbol of perseverance and good luck. Students studied the work of Thierry Bisch, then created their own rainforest with a golden frog, filled with color using our new tempera cakes.\r\n\r\nStudents are always so excited to see their art come to life with new products. And they are always surprised and grateful to learn that supplies such as these come from donors who care about them and their experiences in education. Thank you so much for your generosity! Each group collectively wrote a rough draft on one piece of paper and a final draft on another. \r\n\r\nI recently displayed their work in the hallway. They are so proud of their posters. With this donation, we are able to keep our room healthy by cleaning tables,chairs and door handles clean. As fall and winter approach, so do viruses. Coughing and sneezing are an everyday occurrence. Tissues, paper towels and hand sanitizer help us to not spread the germs. \r\n When the students first saw the boxes and boxes of the donated cleaning supplies, they were thrilled to be able to clean their hands, tables and wipe their noses ( without having to use rough paper towels).\r\n The next project will be to help the scholars who have challenges with sensory issues. However, we are hitting the ground running, completing our color theory study this week. Younger students have been learning primary and secondary colors, and mixing their own secondary colors to create color wheel kites on gorgeous mixed color watercolor backgrounds. \r\n\r\nOlder students have been learning about value and creating vivid value tone paintings with liquid tempera. \r\n\r\nFourth grade have learned about analogous and tertiary colors, mixing primary and secondary colors together to create tertiary colors in an analogous color scheme while completing dragonflies in flight.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping us to have better quality paper on which to practice skills and grow in understanding.
