These materials have helped make our classroom feel more welcoming and engaging, and they give my students opportunities to learn while also supporting their individual needs. There was a buzz of curiosity as they asked how to use them and quickly noticed how different they felt from a regular chair. One of my favorite moments was during our whole-group reading lesson—students who typically struggle to sit still were able to gently move while staying engaged, raising their hands, and participating in discussions. It was clear right away that giving them a safe way to move helped them feel more comfortable and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWe use the wobble cushions throughout the day during whole-group instruction, small group work, and independent practice. Students have learned how to use them responsibly, and they take pride in making choices that help their bodies stay focused. I've already seen an increase in on-task behavior, longer attention spans, and fewer interruptions. These cushions have also been especially helpful for students who benefit from sensory input, allowing them to regulate their energy without disrupting their learning or others around them.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue building routines that support self-regulation and independence. Students are learning to recognize when they need movement and how to make choices that help them succeed. As we dive deeper into our academic goals, these wobble cushions will remain an important tool in helping all learners stay engaged, focused, and confident. Thanks to your support, my classroom is becoming a space where every child can learn in a way that works best for them.","fullyFundedDate":1776105435475,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-focus-one-wobble-at-a-time/9984311/","projectTitle":"Supporting Focus One Wobble at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Vaughn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3635209_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1465418085921","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3635209"},{"teacherId":3635209,"projectId":9984257,"letterContent":"My first graders were so excited when our new classroom resources arrived! The moment I introduced the reward system, I saw an immediate boost in motivation and engagement. Students were eager to earn \"classroom earnings\" for making good choices, showing kindness, and putting forth their best effort. One of my favorite moments was watching a student who typically struggles with staying on task work diligently all morning so they could earn enough to choose a prize. \r\n\r\nWe are using the variety of incentives in purposeful ways throughout the day. The candy rewards are used sparingly to celebrate big efforts and positive behavior, while the fidget toys and small prizes from the treasure box provide non-food options that students absolutely love. These tools have also helped support students who need sensory input to stay focused, allowing them to regulate their energy while continuing to learn. The combination of choice and consistency has made a noticeable difference in how students approach their work and behavior.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are continuing to build on these routines by connecting our \"earnings\" system to lessons about goal-setting, responsibility, and perseverance. Students are beginning to set personal goals for both behavior and academics, and they are learning the value of patience as they save for rewards. Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has become a place where students feel encouraged, celebrated, and empowered to grow—not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.","fullyFundedDate":1776105434971,"projectUrl":"project/recognizing-hard-work-in-our-first-grade/9984257/","projectTitle":"Recognizing Hard Work in Our First Grade Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Vaughn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3635209_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1465418085921","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3635209"},{"teacherId":7900676,"projectId":9414698,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity on bringing our classroom together. The students have a designated space which helps them stay engaged and learning. One special moment happened during morning meeting. Instead of students spreading out or struggling to find their space, everyone had a clear, designated spot on the rug. This helped students settle quickly and start the day calmly and focused. The defined seating spots have especially supported students who need structure and personal space.\r\n\r\nDuring a recent read-aloud, students gathered on the rug to discuss the story's theme and setting. Because everyone could see clearly and sit comfortably, participation increased. One of my quieter students raised her hand to share her thinking about the character's feelings — something she doesn't always feel confident doing. The cozy, organized space truly created a sense of community and safety.\r\n\r\nWe've also used the rug for partner math games and phonics practice. Students turn and talk with their elbow partners, practice sight words, and use sentence stems together. The rug has helped build stronger classroom routines, smoother transitions, and more meaningful collaboration.\r\n\r\nIt's more than just a rug — it has become the heart of our classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1760021483046,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-us-together/9414698/","projectTitle":"Bringing Us Together","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Heard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7900676_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y231&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748573231146","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7900676"},{"teacherId":3635209,"projectId":9548734,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students are now learning science and engineering in a way that truly comes alive. As soon as we opened the STEM kits, the room filled with excitement—students were eager to touch the materials, ask questions, and start building right away. We've already used the Lakeshore STEM science kits to explore magnets and motion, and students worked together to test ideas, make predictions, and problem-solve when something didn't work the first time. Watching them redesign and try again was a powerful moment of learning and perseverance.\r\n\r\nThe individual STEM kits have been especially impactful. Students loved building wind-powered cars and simple robots, proudly testing their designs and cheering each other on. The magnetic monster materials sparked creativity and collaboration, while the Elkonin boxes helped us connect STEM with literacy by strengthening phonemic awareness during small-group instruction. Many students who sometimes struggle to stay engaged were fully focused and confident while working with these hands-on tools.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue integrating these materials into our science and literacy lessons by rotating them through learning stations and engineering challenges. Students will record observations, reflect on what worked, and build vocabulary as they explain their thinking. Because of your support, my students—many of whom come from historically underfunded backgrounds—now have access to high-quality resources that build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.
